2021 November reservation. Was given shop access over last weekend and locked in a match from shop on 7/10 Monday for White, 21"wheels, OC interior, no other add-ons. VIN assignment is PN0107XX - I've read through parts of this thread. Does this indicate it is a Unit produced earlier might have not passed QC as lot of the current VIN are 14-15xxx Range vs one I got assigned through shop at 10xxx ?

Thanks for any help, clarification.

Anything in the store is likely to have an "earlier" VIN than current production - some won't, but most probably will.

Vehicles end up in the shop for many reasons - some absolutely will be "returned" vehicles, corrected and brought up to spec, some will just be vehicles where people abandoned them during the 8-step process, or just couldn't acquire financing, there are many reasons.

Given the current production ramp, if a vehicle sits at the factory for 2-3 weeks to deal with closing out the previous order (and giving enough time to be SURE it's abandoned) and then getting it prepped to go on the store it's not crazy to have it already be a few thousand vehicles back - it's not as far back in time as it used to be. Rivian produced almost 14k vehicles in the last qtr - let's round down and make the math easy - let's say it was 12k. 3 months in a qtr, that means 4k vehicles per month, not all of those will be R1S - but a lot will, anywhere from 2-2.5K I would wager given they have said they're weighting production to something like 70/30 R1S:R1T (and the remaining 2k we took off the production numbers could be the EDV so a few hundred of those a month too). So in 3-4 weeks you could have an R1S VIN jump up by 2K. If it was a unit that needed work, service centers (even at the factory) are likely backed up a LOT meaning it might take 6-8 weeks to bring it up to spec - now you're 4-5K "behind" in VIN - but 2 months isn't exactly "old" - it "feels" like "thousands" behind means it's been a LONG time, but we're just not used to the current pace Rivian is churning things out - it's WAY faster than those early R1T deliveries .

Bottom line: An almost 11K VIN (if the newest are around 15K) is maybe like 2 months old or even slightly less. That doesn't inherently mean it was a "reject" - even just a pure failure to purchase likely takes several weeks to deal with the paperwork before it can be re-sold on the store. I wouldn't worry. Regardless of how it comes to you, YOU still get a brand new warranty, and 7 days to return it. It's not like any of that gets "used up" just because someone else sent it back.

There may be lots of different reasons.

Definitely is NOT a returned vehicle (7 day return policy vehicle), as its been registered and cannot be resold as new.

Since the VIN is roughly 5K behind the current, I assume the vehicle is at the SC and not at Normal being shipped out.

Reasons are not all vehicle related. Some people could not get financing or that had a second thought when payments appear to be too burdensome.

It may have been rejected and now the reasons for, are addressed and fixed (most likely cosmetic).

Just go into it with your eyes open and as questions as well as your visual inspection. Unfortunately, none of the vehicles are mechanically inspectable prior to taking ownerships.

The message is that the shop does not equal reject or problem vehicles. Some, yes, many no. The forum is filled with people who bough from the shop without any issues.

My LE R1S is VIN 79xx and by the time it hit the shop we were seeing vins in the 10-11k range. Mine has the factory PPF so I’m guessing it was held up at the factory as it awaited PPF install.

I wouldn’t worry about a shop vehicle being behind by a few thousand and as long as it’s still in Normal.

Not true at all. I selected two different VINs from the shop in May/June and they weren't even off the production line yet... and were the highest VINs we had seen. I ended up with a 13xxx R1S and that was the first 13k reported here (and my guide confirmed it was rolling out of the factory floor that day and hasn't gone through the final steps yet). Read through the treads... most people who grab an R1 from the shop are getting the latest VINs. Yes, some old VINs show up... but more new than old.

I got my VIN today. Its at 17XXX
Nice. Highest I've seen to date. I snagged 16xxx last week.

I keep messing with myself. Does a high VIN mean more experience and better build, or does it mean they ramped capacity, and at risk of teething issues from the latest scaling.

I just got my VIN number today after being told it was assigned last week. I am getting 146xx. I spoke to my guide this am and he said it was a build date of 7/19.

Hopefully this helps you VIN sleuths get an idea of production output!

Now I am just waiting for word it has shipped from Normal to my SC in Orlando.

I got my VIN as soon as I selected out of the shop. My guide has yet to respond to me, text or email. No major questions or concerns, just trying to tidy up some small things.

My VIN is 0156xx for my R1S. I was contacted by my guide on 7/14 and started the 8-steps immediately, completed around 7/20 with outside financing and no trade-in (due to comically low offer from Rivian). Service Center says it arrived on 7/18 (Minneapolis) and asked if I wanted to take delivery on 7/22, but I was out of town, so taking delivery on 7/26. I was shocked at how quickly everything moved once they contact me.

I wish there was a chart to track this info visually, maybe with colors to reflect certain options that might drive the build schedule. It's totally unnecessary in the scheme of things, but curiosity must be sated!

Anyway my GW/OC/22 VIN 13,1xx was in the shop when I locked it in on 07/05, was shipped by rail from Normal to ATX a couple days later, and arrived on Friday 07/21 (per my Guide), but silence thus far from the SC re pick up date.

Also Minneapolis — requested R1 shop access on Sunday via chat for the 4th time this year. Today when I randomly checked it I had access (no email received, no guide assigned). Only one R1S when I checked this morning but late morning when I looked there was +50 including a LS, Ocean coast, 22” bright which I locked in. VIN 147xx.

I picked a RC w/ BM and 20” AT today and my VIN is 16212. So looks like it was built this month, neat!
How was the R1S? Any flaws?
