I’ve been wondering about the R1 Shop vehicles which are a Launch Edition with the All Terrain Package.

It wasn’t possible to order that configuration, was it? I could be mistaken but I’m pretty sure the All Terrain Package as being shipped (underbody shield, 20” wheel with all terrain tires, and spare tire kit) is a fairly recent development. If it wasn’t possible for a Launch Edition reservation-holder to order this combo then these must have been built specifically for the shop, right?

They're probably just streamlining the naming of configurations as not to confuse. They could also just be incorporating the spare tire to complete the named package.

I get that for Adventure, but why for LE?

I can’t imagine many LE reservation-holders with non-dark 20” wheels configured would want one like this from the shop because they lose the free wheel upgrade. On the other hand, it seems like a reasonable way for Rivian to sell an LE vehicle to an Adventure reservation-holder without giving away the wheel upgrade.

But then I wonder, why do they need to produce more LEs at all? Why not just make them as Adventure? I’m not complaining! I‘m just curious.

I snagged one of these from shop last week. LE with all terrain which says wheels are included and spare etc. Included. Seems to be launch pricing. Looking forward to delivery.

Bizarre as it may sound, I suspect that Rivian is getting rid of excess inventory of wood dash trim with the Launch Edition badge already attached (badge was attached at the supplier). Rivian probably ordered the wood dash pieces from their supplier many months ago. In the meantime, LE preorders have been cancelled. Rivian probably can't just swap the badges. Rather than scrap out their excess inventory of LE wood dash trim, they're building Launch Editions for the Shop with the A/T Upgrade. Obviously customers are buying them from the Shop. Rivian is not reneging on their claim that the Launch Edition is a "limited configuration" because they never told us how many they were going to build.

If the badge is integral to the wood trim then that makes complete sense.

I always thought the badges would be separate because of this issue and how much easier it would be to stock 2 types of badges and 2 types of dash trim pieces than 4 types of dash trim pieces.

I selected one of these LE + AT package vehicles from the shop and it’ll be perfect for us so, again, I’m not complaining!

It's just a way for them to bundle those options and sell them as a $3850 upgrade. Normally the underbody shield would be $2000 on LE and the spare (no longer offered) maybe $700-800 (can't remember exactly), and AT wheels free ($1800 on Adventure). They're getting an extra $1000 by bundling them like this using the current bundle pricing. Good for Rivian's margins but not as good a deal for us looking for the best value in the shop.

As to why these vehicles are showing up in the shop, I assume they're just remaining early LE pre-orders that got built but then customers declined.

I’m an Adventure reservation holder who wanted the underbody shield, 20” AT wheels, and the spare so the LE + All Terrain package was perfect for us. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense for a Launch Edition reservation holder if they lose the included wheel upgrade.

I don’t think they are declined vehicles because it was never an option for LE reservation holders to choose in the configurator, if I recall correctly.

Yeah it wasn't an option for this as a bundle, but it was an option to have AT, Reinforced Underbody, and Spare all separately. So my theory is that any truck that had all three of those configured, they're now just calling that the All Terrain Upgrade, +$3850.

Since we know they can show different pricing in the shop to different reservation holders, now I wonder what an LE person sees for pricing when they look at an LE+AT. Maybe they see their LE pricing plus whatever the cost of the spare was for LE.

The LE originally was configured with all of those things. Then they dropped the price and made underbody reinforcement optional. After stating that “of course, an off-road vehicle will come standard with a spare”, that too became optional.

☝This.

What you describe is what we all received over a year ago at no extra cost, except the spare. Verbiage has changed.
