I am using my R1T Gen2 in a 4th of July parade and would like to keep the gear tunnel doors open while on the parade route to hold commercial bubble machines. ( we are a soap company) Below is what I can find on doing this - was wondering if there is any experience out there driving with them open ( max speed becomes 10MPH) and will I be ok, or should I go to plan B? Thanks!
SystemExpected Behavior with Tunnel Open
AccelerationSeverely reduced, possibly down to ~10 mph max
Cruise / AutonomyLikely disabled
Drive ModesOnly low-speed limiting modes active
Stability / Air‑ride adjustmentsMay revert to safer configurations
In-transit power portsUnaffected, but risk shifting cargo
AlertsDashboard warning + audible chime until closed

I really wish they would do a software update that would not do all that… in my gen1, I have had two rear zone controllers fail, which make the tunnel doors, tailgate and PTC go inop… but most importantly the car thinks the tunnel doors are open. Blaring alarm and 13mph max limp mode.

To answer your question, it will drive slowly but annoyingly with the tunnel doors open.

How about grabbing some U bolts that are the same size as the gear tunnel door u bolts and jamming that into the latch to stop the alarm and enable full functionality?

I did the same with a screwdriver and the tailgate latch to clear my errors and make it work.

Kinda brilliant low-tech fix. Love it. Wish the drivers door had something for back in to places

That's a person with experience and problem solving skills right there. Love it.

I get a warning light on the dash if they are left open, but bricking the car is insane when they had to have known the locking mechanism might fail or someone might want to keep them open. Intentionally.
