I am going to be visiting family in Muncie, IN for a week and according to PlugShare the charging options are seriously limited. Does anyone know of any charging option flying under the radar in the area? I'll likely just want to do one deep charge while we're there.

They aren't listed on plug share, but they are there. Thousands of them. Every garage and driveway Muncie has a power outlet that can charge an EV. I checked - it is essentially 100%. ;-) Not every garage has a 240V outlet, but they all have 120. Since you are visiting for a week, even a 120v outlet will get it you in a good position for the return trip.

Also, if your family owns the house and their circuit breaker is in the garage I would ask them if it is OK if you install a 14-50 outlet It only take $100 in parts and 30 minutes to add an outlet next to the breaker box. No one else in my family has an EV, but they all have 240v outlets in their garages (now).

I appreciate the sarcasm, but a real answer would have been much more informative.

I'm not being entirely sarcastic (other than having checked every house). If you are staying with family in Muncie, you should be able to charge at their house.

Everyone I know in rural Indiana has a driveway and a garage and that includes college students in Muncie who live in POS rentals. That is where I have always charged when I visit.

I am not sure if the concept of street parking has made it there yet. It is probably a big reason why there isn't much in the way of public chargers. Public charging is just not needed when essentially 100% of the population has a garage/driveway and drives less than 10 miles a day because nothing is more than 5 miles away.

You'll pass through Indianapolis on your way there where there are plenty of fast chargers. Fill up in Indianapolis, and then plug in at your family's house. Even a 120v outlet will be more than enough to replenish the 45 miles you use driving from Indianapolis to Muncie and anything you do in Muncie.

I am staying with family, but they live in an older house, their breaker box is full, and they don't have the time or finances to do any upgrades at this time. We considered running a cable from their dryer to the driveway, but when they measured it out, it was over 50' and I only ever carry 50' of charging cable.

Looking at PlugShare, the only public chargers I see are both in car dealerships and I'm okay with that, but I don't know how the dealerships will feel.

Alternatively, I am prepared to run down to New Castle and charge at the public library.

Even when a 240 volt outlet is not an option, you can still charge from a regular household 120v outlet (like the type you plug your phone in to charge it from). 2 days on a regular outlet will fully replenish what you used on the drive in from Indianapolis.

Oh, I am fully aware of the capabilities of the 120v outlet. I charged my R1T exclusively on a 120v for the first three months that we owned it.

I’ve charged at the DcFc behind the GM dealer in Muncie. If it’s ICE’ed the service techs are generally cool about moving the vehicle.

Theres also level 2 charging at a random battery store right next to Minnetrista nature preserve. Which is easy to burn a few hours at; plus farmers markets there on Saturdays.

Either of those should at least get you through for a week and at least give you enough juice to get to the EA in Fishers.
