My grandson's new 12" long baby ball python slithered out of his hands last night and snuck behind the back seat back cushion. this cushion seems to be permanently affixed. the snake has been in there for almost 20 hours and we have tried all kinds of things to lure him out- a heating pad, used bedding from a rat cage ( which Petco gave to us). Rivian says they cannot take the seat backs off for us because of the "live animal". can anyone offer advice on how to remove a seat back in the 2026 R1T (we have only had it for two weeks!)

Please- any advice appreciated.

I don’t know for sure but I believe some of the bolts are below the rear window under the trim where the child seat anchors are. The others I believe are under the trim for the storage tub. Look up some of the write ups for sub installs and you should at least find some of what you are looking for.

You might not get an answer until Monday, but what about contacting the National Zoo or local animal control for suggestions on luring out the snake?
If anyone suggests releasing mice in the car, get another opinion. 🙂

Could Rivian provide the couple pages of the service manual?

Garage the vehicle, close it up, AC on. On the floor, heating pad warm, as well as water, and a camera showing the area with a motion sensor. And wait and hope. Maybe open up the seat as well.

Basically, you have to hope the snake survives, comes out, you see it, and don’t scare it away when you try to grab it. Maybe put the heating pad in a pillow case and a string on the opening so you can lift it up to keep the snake from escaping if you see it. Tough problem

Put in a service request , then come on here and say how it will be two weeks before you get the vehicle back.

As a ball python owner, I sympathize.

Those things find hidey-holes you can't imagine existing. Honestly, even if you get the seat back off, it will still probably be hiding somewhere you can't see it.

There's about zero things you can do to lure it out until it gets hungry. These snakes just stay in their holes until they want to eat.

They mostly come out when it's dark and quiet. I'd put some type of motion-cam in the car. It will come out when it's hungry, which is usually about a week from when it last ate. You can hopefully grab it when it's out searching for food.

I agree with the comments about making sure the vehicle is sealed in a garage, AC on, try to force it out to a heating pad. You're sure it's still in there, right? Tricky for sure. Please give us an update how it goes!

I think the request was for meant for serious advice, though it is technically correct any advice was appreciated. And silly advice can also help temporarily distract you in a really difficult situation. OP, we are all feeling discomfort as well. How is the kid doing? Gotta be rough. Good luck
