I disagree. Goal is sell trucks. I doubt many Americans rush to the Lincoln dealer to buy a Nautilus because they like it is made in China. Being American manufactured is still a selling point. And many assume I suspect due to styling...that the Rivian is not manufacturered in America.
What's strange is that a lot of people buy American brands to "support America" but the manufacturing of many vehicles has been outsourced to other countries. Similarly, a lot of "foreign" companies make their cars in the US. I think for many people (at least my own) motivation for buying a product "made in the USA" is to help support the workers who make the product, not as much the engineers or corporate types. So where the product is physically made is generally more important than who designed it. This is a pretty interesting list. I really didn't know so many "foreign cars" were made here:

I actually wonder if my old Ridgelines were even more American (70%!) than my R1T. I kinda liked driving around some of the most American vehicles "under the radar" even though they had a "H" badges. Even the Lightning is only 24%. That number has dropped significantly since the first ones rolled off. I had an early one in mid-2022 and it came with a piece of paper that said it was effectively 50% American.
