Saw this adorable image on a facebook group and said “ahh, how sweet.” Then I read the caption and got incredibly confused. Look at this reservation date! He is also in Northern Wisconsin! Meanwhile Jan 2021 order here, 15 miles from a service center and I am hoping to get moved out of 2024 to 2023! Seems like there is no reasoning whatsoever behind delivery. Or perhaps I’m just not on the nice list. I know it’s their company and can do it as they see fit, and I will wait, but I am still allowed to wonder wth they are doing. Thanks in advance for listening to my griping.

I picked up an order that no one claimed. My dad has an R1T so I think that helped move me up the list.

What is unclear is if the OP was given R1 shop access in his area and simply selected that R1S, or if he had a guide assigned (maybe he reached out to his Dad's guide?) and they offered it up to him.

If this was an R1 shop selection, why was a 10/21 reservation given access and dibs on that R1S instead of others in the same area with older pre-order dates?

There's no R1S's in shops yet. They are currently only calling people with launch edition reservations when a launch edition vehicle is orphaned. No Adventure R1Ss have been produced yet and they haven't gotten all the way through the Launch Edition list to start calling people on Adventure(They might not actually end up doing this and it might be the trigger that starts putting R1S's in the shop).

is it possible he used the baby as leverage... asking for a friend. seriously I have a baby on the way in 6 months and need a more practical car (Tesla is my wife's car), was kinda hoping I would get the Rivian before then. otherwise, might need to go shopping for another car.
