Sorry to hear about you having to move back! Strange enough, I need to move back this summer too! Not sure if I will sell the Rivian in Germany or keep it. I have a R1S preorder with pre-price-raise pricing so I might try to use that.
I did find it much easier to come this way, having done it now . . . although, my truck went directly into the Service Center for some much needed TLC with the trained tech's LOL!

Tough call on whether to bring it back or not. Of course, it is nice having a launch edition :)

Let me know where/when you are back this way . . . there are some great clubs over here that have lots of events!

Cheers

No Rivian yet… ?
Thank you, yes please PM me about this . . . we have our first road inspection at the end of January and I fully expect to get dinged on this. But even if it slides under the radar its something I think I'd like to have done on our truck regardless.

Looking forward to the work you are doing for Rivian's in Europe!
I can PM you his contact information.
Tail lamps must be sent to him, you should probably expect an 8-10 day turnaround.

It should be possible to reprogram the telematics control module with new e-sim data.... I'm working on it....

Hi Allan, can you please PM me the contact details for the Amber indicator modifications?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

A little over 1 year after shipping our R1S out of California it's now finally registered here in Switzerland! I forgot how great a vehicle it is after this long time (and driving an electric Skoda in the meantime), I'm so glad to have it back. But not having a service center is a real headache, Rivian's EU move in 2026/2027 can't come soon enough from that perspective.

I brought it over as "household goods" as part of our move back from the US, some compliance requirements are lifted under these circumstances (this is all Switzerland specific and only applies if you move to Switzerland after living abroad and owning a car abroad for at least 6 months):

- Rear turn signals can stay red
- Front- and side impact protection
- Pedestrian impact protection (for regular imports they'd need to crash your car into dummies, which will likely wreck it)
- Noise testing (would probably not be an issue with EVs anyways)

What I had to get done:

- Electrical conformity & safety testing (UN ECE R100 and UN ECE R10 for EMV. I have these documents, if any other R1S importer needs them let me know). This was low 5 digit expensive to get done and the test center bricked my R1S (park brake failure) while doing so *
- Car is limited to 5 passengers including driver, this keeps the weight at exactly 3500 kg. There is EU regulation to lift the limit to 4250 kg for EVs but it's not yet official in Switzerland, other EU countries might apply that weight)

Now you'd think everything is good, but of course there's the next issue: the glass roof cracked, presumably during shipping but since I didn't notice it when inspecting the car after re-delivery it could have happened in the last 2 weeks, I only saw it this weekend. It looks like a stress fracture, going almost across the whole roof. I'm not gonna ship it back for this, on to figuring out how to deal with it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

* Park Brake Failure: the test center put the R1S on rollers while in tire change mode and then started to spin the wheels. After about a minute the R1S applied the park brakes and would refuse to release them again without servicing ??‍♂. Apparently they should have known better, I was told a Tesla would do the same. Rivian tried to resolve it remotely but wasn't able to, local EV specialists got to read out the error via the diagnostic port but couldn't reset it. So this resulted in a round-trip back to the US to a service center which took from Dec 2023 to April 2024. FML.

What did this phase of testing include/cover? I might have to do this for an electric bike (45 km/h) that I brought back from the USA... and could you share the name of the company you used for the testing?

There was someone who was thinking of buying a used Rivian and taking it to Canada where there are no immediate plans for service coverage. Don’t know if he did it and I couldn’t find that thread again

Someone also saw a Rivian in Hawaii but we don’t know who it was.

I salute you, lone wolves

Rivian’s are sold in Canada. In fact some of the software development takes place in Vancouver. There are service centres in major centres. Canadian English on the spelling of center!

I have send a PM
Hello, I wanted to tell you what's going on, we actually registered our R1S in Germany - allan88 - thank you very much for the address!!! but the problem of the yellow indicators has not yet been solved. At the moment the indicators are red again because otherwise an indicator light on the dashboard lights up. The second very annoying problem is the lack of internet connection. If the car is in the garage everything is fine, it gets the data from the garage via the WiFi network, which is enough for navigation within a radius of 20 km, then the screen goes black. I would really like a way to swap the E-Sim, does anyone have any ideas about it?

The next update should allow Wifi tethering, so it wouldn't be necessary to swap SIM cards.

That would be great if that could work - we can create a hotspot with our cell phone at the moment, but as soon as we put the car in gear the hotspot is gone again. Then the car has navigation again for about 20 km but then blue screen again.

Yep. In the next update it should stay connected throughout the drive.

Man it's about time! Of course I am leaving Germany in two weeks so it won't matter to me now... but Tesla has had that ability forever.

I'm new here and have a Question concerning Rivians in Germany.
I'm also thinking about getting one but there are still some unknowns for me:
How is it with the towing capacity of the R1T and S in Germany?
Is the R1S Registered as five seater due to the max weight limit of 3.5 to or is it possible to still register it as seven seater?

Hope I get some answers about this…
