Does your state exclude the trade value for tax purposes when you trade to a dealer? If so, you may want to look into it. Instead of the tax on my Rivian being $6127, it was $1673. $51,000 of the purchase was not taxed (value of my trade). Disregard if you live in a no sales tax state.

In my experience the guide email will come, and you will book an intro call immediately. Things start to progress, slowly at first. The guides are clearly very busy (good thing on a macro level). You may even feel ignored or “ghosted”. Start getting your checklist together. Once it is your time, you will know. The action increases exponentially. Your account website, app and guide will spring to life. Your guide will reply almost immediately. And one day soon that chronic toxic excitement will transform to a child-like eager anticilation, akin to Christmas eve. Like me right now, you will probably not be able to sleep, and will retreat to your most comfortable place, and make your well rehearsed Rivian internet rounds one last time as a preorder holder.

I am curious as well. First I had ever heard of Driveway. Their offer was $6000 more then Carvana. Unfortunately, I don’t have a trade in value yet from Rivian as I haven’t started the 8 step process yet.

PA does charge tax - 7% in my county specifically - and any trade offsets the total tax bill for the entire transaction. There is also no provision in the tax code for sell to one party and buy from another. That means that I don't come out as far ahead. Still though, $3,000+ is OK in my book.

If I would have sold the Rivian stock I purchased like I said I would instead of diamond-handing like an ape, I'd be in an even better spot. Such is life though...

Sounds like you know what you’re doing. Just want to make sure people generally know to check the tax laws in your state. That big difference you might see from Rivian’s offer to private sale might be offset in tax savings.
