lol. Why the hell don't they just say that when reserving? I bailed mid-reservation after seeing the page that says $100, and looking at the fine print it said I'd have to call the dealer. Well, that's good to hear at least.

As much as I am dying to get my hands on that midgate, this is as close to being in my driveway as Cybertruck is. It looks like realistic options for me at this point are Ridgeline, R1S, Lightning Pro in that order.

It still feels like no American company is either capable of or planning to make EVs mainstream.

fyi, if you want a refund on your deposit, you have to ask for it from the selected dealer. 2024 for non-RST trims.

Was same for Cadillac. I managed somehow to get 2 Lyriq reservations and the one that I canceled didn't seem to understand this and needed to get "escalated" to district manager. I ended up disputing the charge (only $100) for the 2nd reservation and still waiting on final resolution although BofA temporarily credited the charge while they work through the issue.

I think people are in for an unpleasant surprise re: the specs on the $39,900 trim ("for some buyers.") Like, sub-200-mile-range, two-wheel-drive surprise.

They probably will sell refurbished Silverados at $40K:

It has the midgate, and almost certainly has carplay... I think this is the EV truck I'm going to get!

Its interesting, but overall I have historically liked the sierra designs better, so I will wait for that one to debut to put in a reservation as a backup to the Rivian. No reservation for me.

I was just trying to say it is priced like a luxury car which means it is neither mainstream nor it was intended to be at that price. Tesla's goal of continued expansion and keeping the stock price high seem to be in conflict with making an affordable vehicle. GM tried it and got burned (literally).

on a different note, I liked how GM separated the fancy Silverado model reservation from the commoners models clearly spelling out production time difference. Less of a chance of disappointment like for our early explore reservation holders.

Was same for Lyriq. Luckily the dealer I went with wasn't charging over MSRP, other's are not as well. Lyriq was much more limited so I'm sure Cadillac was pressuring dealers to not pull ADM shenanigans. Don't think Chevy will follow suit. It's gonna be several more years before any sort of "dealing" can be done on traditional autos.

Low specs, low priced EVs are usually found in Europe and far east. Even GM's best selling low priced EV is sold in China. Granted anyone that can afford a Hummer wouldn't be caught dead in one of those in an American highway in front of a tractor-trailer but I would buy one if GM was selling it here. I could cut my emissions by 80% driving it locally as a second car but I don't have the option to buy one because everyone is in a race to make the fastest, long range fast charging car. I am not saying these companies are doing this because they are evil. I understand wining the numbers game is a matter of survival for them. I am just stating the effect of it. To be fair, GM did give it a shot with Bolt (and Volt) and most of their owners were happy with them but I am not sure how much money they lost on those efforts.
