I hope the new Quad has extra range. . By that I mean a battery set greater than the current max pack. The Chevy truck EV has 440 mile range according to GM ,more than the dual max pack)
One valid opinion is that we need more range not because we (as individuals) necessarily need or want more range for ourselves right this moment (although some do), but because we (as a car-driving nation) need greater average range in order to hurry what we hope is the inevitable switch to electrically-powered personal transport. Please see my article on this issue here.Do you often find yourself needing more range? Or is this a 1-5% of the time outlier where you have to have more than 400 miles?
I do acknowledge that most cars in the U.S. are only driven an average 40 miles a day. And that most EV drivers charge at home most of the time. I also acknowledge that lower income folks may have a hard time affording cars with large batteries (=greater range) right now. So that would mean it is up to the better-heeled folks to encourage the necessary R&D by speaking with our wallets and buying EVs with bigger batteries and better range, now.
North America has vast space and many miles of highways. If we are going to encourage ICE vehicle drivers to switch, we need (1) greater maximum average range across the EV fleet, (2) better availability and access to reliable charging stations, and (3) faster charging--with statistics that mimic those established by the gasoline-powered automobile-industry in the latter half of the 20th-Century. Fortunately, I think we are seeing progress made in that direction.
Let's help stamp out 'range anxiety' in our time.
