Astonished!
Just received an estimate to repair the drivers side rear quarter panel, tailgate shell and rear bumper. Luckily the damage was caused by a neighbor who bumped my R1S during the holidays.
Estimated Repair Cost: $49,880.
The shop is the 1st authorized Rivian Repair Facility in the Northeast. They’re a quality outfit!

I’m flabbergasted! I hope I don’t get into an actual accident!

I just received the final approved repair order:

I wonder what percentage of new R1 sales are associated with insurance claims vs actual new customers?

I think it's pretty clear that we should just by 2 of them at a time, one for a spare. Maybe a discount on the 2nd one? JK!

It's insane and not sustainable..

There was just a thread by someone saying their Nationwide policy actually more than doubled from their last renewal with no tickets or accidents. Nationwide wants more for 6 months of coverage then they were previously charging for one full year of coverage.

We all are, and how long before those doubling premiums start impacting Rivian ownership decisions for new and used Rivian vehicles?

For real... I am at $802.91 for a 6 month policy. It would be higher, but I have a rider policy on one of my other vehicles that covers all of my vehicles for uninsured/underinsured.

If my policy goes up to 1600, its no longer economically viable.

I’m about $2,900 yr. And my wife and I are discussing what to do after the truck is repaired. I got a diminished value estimate of over $20,000.00. So if I can get that from the insurance company we might seriously consider selling. This entire situation is totally unacceptable, that a car manufacturer would create and build something that is so difficult to repair. I wonder if all EV’s are like this.

No, Tesla's giga-castings have replaceable crumple zones in case of an impact hard enough to damage the casting. In an accident as minor as the OP's, the giga-casting would not have even been damaged (at all).

It's a very sad situation, but Fisker is the same when it comes to repairs. Check their user forums... Ocean owners that have been in even minor incidents can not get the body parts required so the vehicles sit at body shops for months then get totaled out of frustration by the owner and ins. co.

It's an unsustainable situation that seems to be limited to "new" auto manufacturers like Rivian, Fisker and even Tesla to some extent. It's not an "EV thing", but it just so happens that there are no new ICE auto manufacturers, so it can look like an "EV thing".
FWIW, I can get almost every part imaginable for our BMW i3, and Chevy Bolt as they are both from legacy auto makers that understand the vital importance of easy to obtain replacement parts.

If it goes to $1600, I would consider selling. I don't need another white ?. I got family and home for draining all my money ?

Received a check for $24,440 for diminished value, although I think they made a mistake and paid me twice what I was due, however since I accepted the offer they honored it.

Final repair cost $60,540 plus a diminished value check for $24,400, plus $100.00/day loss of use payment.
I’m grateful to have the truck back, but terrified I’ll get hit again! I can’t imagine what the resale price is if carfax lists the repair charges.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I’ve gotten such a wide range of estimates on DV for 15k of damage. Anywhere from 5-15k.
