I took my Rivian R1T in for repair since Frunk wouldn’t close …turns out a mouse chewed one of the wires in the wiring harness. They quoted me $700 to splice the wire which is absolutely insane to me. Took it back and plan to pull the frunk bucket and find and splice the wire. Any tips?

They are probably not splicing the wire but replacing it. Fixing things yourself is always the cheaper option.

You can get a cat
Several years ago I had mice in my Lincoln. Got two ‘garage cats’ and haven’t had problems since
(Sry this doesn’t help your now problem)

Our Rivians are in our driveway. We pay $20 a month ($10 x 2) for rodent bait stations, anchored to small concrete blocks, that sit under the front of each Rivian when it is parked.

Even with the concrete anchors, the Rivians' ground clearance means they don't scrape the bait stations even at the lowest height setting. Seems like cheap insurance....

Best to all!

If I was splicing that I would use either solder & flux & heat shrink, or a solder seal connector.
The seal connector should have adhesive to keep moisture out. I prefer to add a very tiny dab of flux to the wires even with the seal type because the solder seems to flow better. You only need a heat shrink gun for those, no soldering iron needed. There should be plenty Youtube videos on soldering either way.

If you choose a mechanical type connector, I would get something that blocks moisture so the connection does not corrode.

Solder seal examples.

Just FYI on preventing rats/mice. Since posting this I added an electric trap. In three months I have
had 4 kills and one false alarm. So it has been working well. We get rats, not mice, but it should work on both.
