Same here, I've owned 4 Teslas (Model S 70, Model 3 MR, Model 3 Performance, and Model 3 LR). Like others have mentioned, I never really used much of the toys Tesla came with. What I wanted and liked in my Teslas were 1 - Being an EV, 2 - fast, 3 - having basic autopilot

All of those are satisfied for me with my R1T. With that being said, there are two things that bug me on the R1T but I know will be resolved in time:
1 - Buggy and feature lacking - The UI and features are just not at the level of Tesla but I know they will in time
2 - Charging on long road trips has already been a pain - With Tesla, I rarely encounter any issues anymore with charging. They have SO many available locations and so many chargers at each location, it's been painless. Trying to do the same with non-Tesla chargers has been difficult with either cars lined up to use, broken chargers, etc. I can't wait for the Rivian network to grow but that will take some time.

For me, almost all my long drives are to LA and back. If it's just there and back, I don't even need the charge, but when we hang out and do things in LA, I need to charge somewhere. If Rivian creates a few along this route, I am set.

Yea, the charging network is a bit to be desired. In time, itll be legit. Luckily, here in Rhode Island/New England, there are tons of chargers, on every block it seems. I rarely charge away from home with my Tesla so Im sure this wouldnt be a huge issue for me. I can see where this stinks though.

Wife has a MYLR which she loves - it’s great for road trips and camping, but I’ll be honest, if the R2 competitor (whatever it’s called) looks good, has better suspension and is similarly sized, I’ll be pretty tempted to trade in the Y. This is especially true with TSLA opening their S/C network as that was the biggest draw to Tesla for me personally. There are other nice thoughtful UI/quality of life things about the Model Y, but I can never shake the feeling that it’s just not put together very well. I would buy another one, but I wouldn’t pay the current 68k for one...never.

I found a white, black interior, cross bars, 20 all terrains with 3k miles near me for around 100k. Lowest I’ve seen in price thus far around my parts. The VIN seems really low too. Is that a bad thing?

No interest in the Cybertruck?

Elon would be displeased.....
Cybertruck will likely be great. But I wouldn't be seen driving that thing, and I'm not particularly interested in strangers opinions.

I'm shocked so many R1 buyers are new to EV. After that group obviously Tesla owners are the majority.

We have a 3 and Y right now. Been waiting for our R1S for over a year. Just as soon as the R1S comes in, the Y is gone lol. R1S suits our needs better, so can't wait to get it!

We have owned our Model Y for 1.5 years. Almost 25k miles and it has has been trouble free minus a loose rear view mirror. Also, not a squeak or rattle to be heard.

I rejected the first two VIN’s because of exterior fit and finish issues. Vehicle #3 arrived fresh from the factory and was near perfect inside and out so we accepted it.

Tesla build quality is hit and miss. I have seen $130k Model S’s at the SC with misaligned doors. They have had 10-years and they still can’t get it right. Tesla pumps out the vehicles and let’s the SC’s do quality control with panel adjustments if the owner complains.

I'm not. It's such a unique form factor for an EV compared to what's been traditionally available and meets the needs for a lot of potential buyers for whom no existing EV would work.

I have had two Teslas, S and now current X. The X is in its 5th year (longest vehicle ownership I have ever had) and it has been a solid vehicle over that time. Took delivery of the R1T a few months ago and have experienced numerous issues that Rivian is addressing. I am confident in their handling these details even though not as smooth as. Tesla service. While I did put in an order for another X before the price increase, I see no reason in taking that delivery as the yoke wheel is a deal breaker. Also, after placing the reservation they changed the Enhanced Autopilot inclusion where it is now another $6k to have it Included.

The R1T is absolutely gorgeous inside and has the quality improvement over Teslas interiors. Hopefully in time Rivian will catch up with software improvements and service center locations.

The supercharger network is a reason to keep the Tesla. Easy to pull up and charge. That being said, I think things will change (not for the better) when they open it up to other vehicles. Most of the time there are open charging spaces, but fewer as more Teslas hit the road. It looks like wait times will be common as they accept other vehicles.

Both manufacturers have their benefits and I am optimistic that Rivian will become a real competitor. LOVE the R1T, but it drives different than the X and is more difficult to get into without running boards.

Question for Model Y owners, past and present.

how is the size of the R1T interior vs the Model Y? Shoulder room with a passenger? Leg room? Rear passenger room? Any comparison?

thanks ahead!

For me, it was all about build quality. Tesla build quality is just not good enough. I am still a huge fan of Elon and Tesla, and will always credit them for this revolution but they need to do better in vehicle build quality.
Now software, nobody can touch them. I have been in Tesla's since 2017, so I have taken it for granted. I was pretty shocked at just how awful the Rivian software and app is, in comparison, but I do have faith it will get better.

Funny thing is they know what to do. The Shanghai plant is spitting out vehicles with top notch QC and fit and finish.

Unlike Fremont vehicles go through a strict QC check before they leave the assembly plant. Buyers in Europe and other countries won’t tolerate the sloppy fit and finish that American buyers are accustomed do.
