That's a technical limit in Bluetooth, not Apple (as your third citation says) inasmuch as Apple has chosen to stick with a more stable BT implementation Sure, Apple could have pursued full LDAC but the playback end would still need to support LDAC which I have yet to see a car audio system that does. Plenty of cars let you use USB, only to run them through a poor head end with a crap DAC.

No idea how Rivian is implementing/limiting bandwidth if at all in the R2 but I can tell you that listening to downloaded Dolby Atmos files despite being over BT still sound excellent and well beyond most people's ability to hear the difference.

I certainly do understand having one's own music library independent of streaming services... but the last nail in that coffin is just about fully driven.

I'll take the over on another 26 pages of is it really lossless discussion.
Android bluetooth is much higher bitrate because it doesnt have to convert to AAC, but the point is blutooth itself is compressed for both which I agree with which is why the usb player would be nice, or a native plexamp integration like they have done with apple and spotify. Whether or not we are able to hear it or not I agree is a separate discussion but I have a massive library of FLAC I would like to listen to without it down converting over phone blutooth. That still makes people want to pay for connect + without having to upload to apple music etc defeats the purpose of self hosting. I dont want to pay their storage. Fees

i have a friend with similar needs as you. Keeps a large collection on USB and will only buy Lexus because of the sound system and support of USB. HE’s also deaf as a post and refuses to wear hearing aids ;)

I will be curious to see from the R2 reviews whether the Bluetooth is as staticy and glitchy as it is on the R1. Also, the bluetooth UI in the R1 could use some work (although this might be an Apple limitation). There should be ways to navigate between artists, playlists, albums, etc.

I know everyone has their own priorities (audio quality, albums not on streaming, etc), but it seems reasonable to have at least one non-shitty option for playing music we own.

Just going to need to suck it up and put your music on your phone.....
Let's just say -- completely hypothetically -- I have a music drive with almost 4 terrabytes of music, but a phone with only 256 megabytes of storage, much of which is devoted to photos and work emails.

Then what?

You know what would be a good solution to this problem? I do.

Your friend sounds exactly like me. AND the hearing aid i tried made my hearing worse! As bad as my hearing is, i can definitely tell the difference between playing from USB and bluetoorh. For better or worse i spent years playing in rock and roll bands but also appreciate classical music and especially jazz. Stravinsky and Miles Davis played amazing music and a good audio system can pretty well replicate the concert hall/studio experience. My priorities in a vehicle are: 1. all electric and 2. excellent audio. So, that rules out a Rivian unfortunately, and also the new (cheaper) BMW iX3. Guess i am stuck with my 2024 BMW iX. Could be worse!
