There should be they are adding more batteries and they are not made out of helium and pixy dust.
As I understand it the max has the same dimension as the large. A chemistry change yields more output.

No, they are putting different chemistry cells in. With 5800 mah capacities instead of 5000. And those, my friend, do run on helium and pixy dust.


Edit: Going back and correcting myself. There does exist 5600mah cells, but rivian is using 5200mah cells for max pack. Cylindrical cells have a theoretical limit of 800 W/liter (no idea what that means), and LG's 5600mah cell is the highest at 763. Rivian is using Samsung cells btw.

But it is highly unlikely they are magic batteries, and are much more efficient when compared to the long range pack.

With the only difference being the battery pack, it is reasonable to expect the efficiency to be the same between the two trucks. I don't think it is reasonable to expect the max pack truck to be more efficient than the large pack truck, unless someone can point to some great breakthrough only Rivian has discovered.
