This is great information for those of us who have not tried 3D printing yet.Yes.
Not really, there were always many options. Maybe people weren't using them a lot, don't know, but my friends and I were making really solid ABS parts 15+ years ago.
There are very strong options, and "strong" means a lot of different things. The most basic plastic is PLA, which is hard, but brittle, and not UV stable, or heat stable. There are many others. For durable car parts I like nylon-carbon fiber, which is super solid yet resilient and machinable if needed. For general car parts parts I like PETG, others prefer ASA. Both are strong mechanically, heat resistant, UV stable. Many of my shop parts are also PETG. Household things vary, depending on use.
You can also decide on wall number, wall thickness, infill percentage and type, and so much more which affect strength.
This is maybe 20% of the settings possible.
