FWIW, my solution was to establish a third (5th, really) account for the R1S which it is always logged into. This way, my wife and I can share playlists to that account and play whatever we (or the kids) want in the car without impacting our "core" accounts.

This way Spotify doesn't start pushing Taylor Swift onto your carefully-curated ICP/murdercore-heavy account.
Thats a good idea....might give that a try

Waze isn't the only game in town. Apple Maps has offered similar functionality for years and I've relied on it just some some use Waze, for traffic incidents, speed checks, and for reporting like events. Further, Apple Maps has a much more comprehensive database of EV chargers (L2 and DCFC) than Rivian and even PlugShare. In tests Electrek and others have done also better than Google Maps. When I used CarPlay with Bolt EUV rental Apple Maps worked great at showing chargers along a route automatically. It's far more useful natively than people (usually ex Tesla) realize as they've never tried it with an EV with CarPlay.

That plus all of the countless other apps that meet other peoples' needs that would be difficult for Rivian to offer. Although I'm curious to see what they mean by "Apps via Connect+". It'll be a huge disappointment and failure/betrayal if they've been fighting against CarPlay to simply cave to Google and offer Google Play store access as a cop out. On the upside/pending better iOS support, based on previews of the next summer update, I'm curious to see what the specific Siri support features are. I hope it's more than the old screen-less CarPlay feature Apple had partnered with GM to offer years ago.

I do like Apple Maps when I a going somewhere that I am not familiar as to how and get there. I like that it links to my Apple Watch and vibrates as I am driving to alert me of upcoming turns and exits

I went with Carpodgo on both my Rivians to get the 60 FPS screen and couldn’t be more pleased.
How did you mount it? Just the included windshield thing? I hate it and am trying to figure out the trick to the mounts that go under the dash pad.

Personally I love jumping from Gojira to Taylor, maybe some Arianna, and then some Manson, and back.

I used the dash mount, along with some double sided sticky tape to prevent rattles. I'm tall enough that when resting on the dash, the screen only obscures the hood, not the road, so a simple dash setup works for me.

So you mean the double-stick onto the "leather" dash? Is it solid? I don't really know whether that surface is bonded to something solid, or is fabric-like. It doesn't pull up?

The height is fine. I just don't want the ugly glass mount, and want it closer to me (same distance as the main screen). The glass mount won't go that far.

Today I decided to try the Rivian nav while alone to get directions. No way to speak my destination, can’t really type it in search while driving so just have to ask Siri and
This is just a blatant lie lol.

Please don’t say I could use Alexa (not going to happen) for this even if it can do it. CarPlay is not a zero sum game, no one ā€˜loses’ anything when CarPlay is available and Iā€˜ll be the judge if it doesn't work with the big display, you won’t care if you don’t use it.
Uhm, we all lose if developer resources are moved off other more important things to integrate CarPlay. So, yeah, I do care.

And my Rivian FM reception flat out sucks, I need to use the phone radio apps on my iPhone even when I am in reception range. Plenty of useful CarPlay-compatible apps that add value for me.
People that like ice cream must also be prone to skin cancer. Is it at least possible that your FM radio reception sucks due to factors outside of the car's control? My FM reception is fine, and I'm fairly far out in PA, 2 hours-ish from Philadelphia (still in the process of moving to Florida).
