Does anyone know when navigation maps get updated? Looking at satellite view, I think the current map is >4 years old. I work in a building that was finished and occupied 3 years ago. The satellite map shows my location as pre-construction (graded, but no structure) and the building took 1.5 years to build–so maybe map is >4 years old.

I looked at google maps on my computer and it shows the same thing. I don't know how often satellite mapping updates, but it must be >4 years, at least in Phoenix.

Does Rivian use Google maps or another satellite map? Or does all earth mapping come from the same satellite images and photo-stitching software?

Rivian uses MapBox.

Updates occur regularly (at least monthly) but they don't update everything every time. In my area some POIs are updated before construction completes, and other POIs are still in the map despite being closed years ago. It's not consistent.

They have a website to make suggestions... I made several reports >1 year ago and they still haven't made their way into my R1T yet.

I usually just find what I want in Apple Maps on my phone and "Send to Rivian" to get it into the nav.

I have had this same issue as it takes me 17 minutes out of the way to get home. The maps are old and do not show what is currently at particular locations. I have complained about this several times and still nothing has been done. A majority of us have asked for Waze, they looked into it, but its not an open API. Can you explain "cammodoreAmigo" what you mean by find what you want in apple maps and then send to Rivian to get in into NAV? Sorry I don't know how to do that. This could all easily be resolved by just acquiescing to put Apple Car play in the software. It is absurd to think that they are going to develop anything that's better anytime soon and until they do we all suffer by having to figure out work arounds! This is 2023... come on RIVIAN!!!

Who or what are you complaining to? Rivian doesn't control the map data.

I understand that, but they are the ones who chose google maps. I have spoken to their inside team more than once. Sent screenshots of how even when I'm less than 2 miles from my house it wants me to turn around and go another 17 minutes out of my way on backroads to get home. It is my biggest complaint. We have this beautiful screen that you can't trust is giving you the correct navigation. I have to use my cellphone with Waze to get where I need to go, as I travel for a living and there is a lot of drive time in Texas.

If you have google or Apple Maps on your phone you can enter the destination, choose the route they offer (not Rivian’s Mapbox route), then use the “share” function to choose your Rivian. This sends the route to your Rivian and it will load when it wakes up.

CarPlay is not coming. They never promised it and have said multiple times it’s not happening.

It's mapbox, not google maps. They are only pulling the search POIs from google.

I know they didn't, it's just a shame. Thank you for explaining how to do that, I will try it today.

The few times I've tested this, it hasn't actually copied the full route.

I thought it only sends the end destination to the car and then the car calculates the route (based on the map data it has). Have you confirmed that whole route gets sent over?

Interesting. I’ve used it twice in the few weeks I’ve had my truck, and for a 40 mile trip it worked as advertised. Haven’t tried anything longer yet.

On your phone use Apple Maps (or Google Maps -- your choice) to find whatever address or point of interest you want to go to. Then use the "share page" in the app and choose "Rivian" as the sharing destination. The location (name and GPS coordinates) will be sent over-the-air to your R1 navigation system.

Issues with maps, addresses, and routing should be sent to Mapbox via Report Mapbox mapping or navigation issues as shown in @Dark-Fx ’s signature. Mapbox should make corrections.

In theory, Rivian could be submitting correction requests on your behalf, but it's really more effective if you know exactly what the problem is to submit it yourself.

They have been pretty responsive, but my home area has quite a few people that work on the openstreetmaps stuff religiously following changes, and thus a lot of the updates there end up integrated with MapBox quickly. They know those contributors are reliable.

If others haven't seen updates after submitting, I'd suggest following up on it and resubmitting if necessary. I'm not sure if MapBox will ever fix a problem submitted months prior.

I'm not seeing anywhere that it shares the route. It simply shares the end point.

What I thought was weird was the end point was a GPS coordinate and copying that into the Rivian app didn't seem to work, but sharing it from Google Maps did work.

In any case I believe any Map/Navigation related issue should go to Rivian. In fact I think Rivian should have a report nav error directly on the interface itself. It's Rivians job to work with their provider.

That isn't to say those of us with time/energy shouldn't use your mapbox link. It's a great way of going about fixing something, but I doubt the majority of owners even know about it.
