Near Hit with Video

One of the first things I bought right when I got my R1S was an SSD to setup Drive Cam. I’ve never had a Dash Cam before, but I was interested in having the evidence if I ever needed it. Luckily I wasn't in an accident, but I did have a near miss earlier this week. I thought I'd use the opportunity to see how easy it would be to extract the video in the event of a real accident. Unsurprisingly, it's really easy. As an aside, the pitiful horn really is a liability. I honked at the other driver, but I don't think he heard it, and only re-entered his lane when he saw me after he was already 3 feet into my lane. Roll the video. . .

A dash cam isn't just a good idea, but an essential item.

Here has been my experience with the drive cam:

Seems to work almost flawlessly when I eject the drive, and copy over the time I want to look at. I don't have to worry about hitting any buttons to capture anything. I didn't check to see if there was any missing time between 15min grabs.

The video quality is poor with exception to the Gear Guard Rear View camera on the R1T. That one seems to have better color/contrast/and resolution (due to a smaller view area), and the frame rate is 30fps.

It's missing things I want like vehicle speed, whether Driver+ is engaged, etc.

Yeah, you’d think someone towing a trailer that long would be extra diligent about looking before changing lanes.

In his defense, he was swerving away from a non-signal quick right turn (rewatch and slow down, squint and look in front of him). Slam brakes could mean towed vehicle breaks loose, person behind hits him, or jack knife that whole load into the OP
