I can't figure out how to delete the thread. I wrote a long post describing a "swerve test" I did with my R1S and how I was surprised at how poorly it handled. Then I realized I have a 2TB drive in the truck. So I watched the video. Turns out my memory of the situation was amplified by my wife and kids screaming at me. The R1S was rock solid as I did a moderate "swerve" around an imaginary turtle. The trailer was indeed all over the place, which is expected with the high center of gravity of a boat on a trailer, but the R1S was a rockstar through the test. My memory was just twisted by all the yelling. This can live on as evidence of how poorly eyewitnesses can be trusted, especially in adrenaline-like situations, and as testament to my idiocy.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are among friends here. We will only yell at you if you complain that your Rivian doesn’t have CarPlay🙂

Holy shit you just about jacknifed your trailer. I think that's more than a little swerve.

But look where the truck wheels are. I wasn't even halfway over the line. But yeah, 3500 lb trailer/boat, and it was damn near sideways...blue smoke and all. But watching the front cam just shows a gentle swerve with no chaos. Like it looks even less aggressive than what I remembered, that trailer is just *light* on the ground. I actually flipped the bimini around recently, and wonder if it was acting as a bit of a "wing". In the normal position, it acts like a spoiler, pushing down on the boat.

lol, your profile photo is closer to how I felt after the boat went sideways. AND I've got an EV Play on the way to fix the carplay problem!

See, now all I want in life is to read that thread and see the video!

I'm an idiot too. Most people here are, at least the ones with a sense of humor.

Great share... we've had experience with single vs tandem axel trailers and prefer the tandem because of this.

So I clipped the video last night from the road cam. I'm hesitant to post just becuase I don't want to become the posterboy for drifting my trailer, but honestly it's pretty impressive how the Rivian cameras don't show any real swaying in the truck while the trailer is doing the boogaloo in the background. Since y'all are not being all evil and pitchfork-y, I'll try and post tonight. Just do me a favor and don't make me famous by crossposting to every other forum and FB group out there. Let's have this just be "our thing" :).

The key to the situation, for me, is my baseline is everyone yelling at the top of their lungs nonstop. You get used to it and it becomes white noise.

I'll never know the limits if I don't test em a little. Plus I highly value knowing how a vehicle will react in different conditions, and how I should react to it. I live in MN, so in winter I purposefully put the car into skids, fishtails, etc. when it's safe to do so, (no one else around me, not in a place I'll screw up traffic if I wreck, etc.), and do it under a controlled manner to learn how the car responds. I'll progressively enter corners with more speed than prudent to learn how to correct, and then try again next time with a bit MORE speed.

This is the first time I've had a vehicle react SO differently than what I was expecting, (which is still great information to learn!), but upon reviewing the footage it seems like it's 99% the trailer being too light and jumpy, while the Riv did a great job holding onto it. (Obviously it's 100% my fault for doing the maneuver in the first place, but I did it purposefully and with good intentions, and I'll do it again to continue to learn, until I'm confident I could tow this trailer through a Mad Max movie and be in control the whole time).

I will say, I've never heard of anyone doing the Moose Test while towing a trailer, good to know the vehicle still behaves nicely!
