But Cybertrucks are actually selling, and "better" than Rivian R1T. Tesla has sold a total of about 59k units...but only been on the market for 2yrs. VS. Rivian is at 56k units but huge head start on the market since 2022 for over 5yrs now. Rivian R1T sales have actually been declining significantly (including having a Gen2 refresh). Down almost a whopping 50% in 2yrs from 2024-24. What's Rivians excuse for declining sales and not growing??
  • 2022: 9,900 units sold
  • 2023: 19,410 units sold
  • 2024: 15,799 units sold
  • 2025: 11,085 units sold
There are 2,731 R1Ts registered in Washington State alone. Where are your numbers from?

Cybertrucks are actually selling? Where? Because they may outsell a new car company selling high end niche trucks that aren’t even intended to be mass market? Did Rivian announce a $40k R1T and build out capacity for 250k R1T’s? Did Rivian tout millions of reservations for the R1T? Are these two situations remotely comparable?

Let me guess - they are destined to become cyber cabs (300k of them!) cause uncle Elon said so.

Yeah I know most people don't like the look of the CT, but it reminds me of the deLorean, if DMC made an electric pickup.

And, if you point out that the CT has lost sales because of its look, how many sales has Rivian lost due to its comic headlights?

I passed on the CT because of all the reports of poor QC, cheap materials glued together, Al frame weakness, plastic interior, poor rear visibility/rear cam on tailgate, etc. -- all of which still remains even at this price point, and oh yeah, Elon becoming a Bond villain.

And yes, despite all that the CT still outsells the R1T by lots; If Rivian sells as many RITs this year as Tesla sells CTs, many calling for Tesla to ditch the CT as an abject failure would be touting the R1T as a smashing success.

Have to wonder why Elon is doing this ( a fools errand, I know). Is he trying to dent R2 sales, even though they are entirely different markets, there may be some overlap of customers, especially if the R2 launch edition costs more. It will surely have some impact on R1T sales.

This is a purely supply and demand move. Non-existent demand with gigantic supply. Don't be surprised if this deal ends once the inventory is gone. I also wouldn't be surprised if Tesla kills the CT just like they did the Model S/X. Its a disaster.

For those who recently bought the single motor RWD, those owners just got screwed big time.

WRT Rivian, they did have the Explore trim which they killed off early. I think if they brought that back it might increase sales but with the complexity and cost to manufacture another trim, I don't think it makes financial sense for them. What they should do is build an R2T compact truck to compete with the upcoming Ford EV truck. The Maverick has already shown its a popular segment and Rivian would eat the Ford EV truck for lunch. The Telo is another competitor so it's getting to be a crowded space.

Related to this, does anyone know how they managed to fit 18" wheels on this truck? I had read that the large calipers for the extra weight were the limitation preventing the Ford/R1T/GM EVs from offering 18" wheels like, say, a Bronco does. I would kill to have that extra rubber on my R1T, but reporting is that they won't fit over the oversized calipers.

Maybe this model has smaller calipers/discs that are the cause of the lower towing capacity?

All the GM EV trucks can fit 18s. I'm running the Hummer EV ones on my Sierra for winter. My winter tires are 33" vs the summer 35" tires, so the Speedo is way off and it accumulates miles faster. But no physical issues.

An R1 could fit 18s out back, but anything under 19's would be impossibly tight up front. And there are no good 19" tires that would work well for a Rivian.

I think the difference between the sales targets for the R1T vs the CyberTruck is that while you can spec the latter to insane price points, it was supposed to be some giant mass-market hit (hence the line supposedly being able to make 250k+ a year), while the R1T is much more a halo product. I don't think Rivian ever intended the R1T to sell in the numbers that Tesla/Elon were expecting the Cybertruck to do. Would it be nice if the R1T sold in those kinds of numbers? Sure! But it's still not a mass-market product, so that why things are judged the way they are.

Comparable. But again, What's Rivian's excuse for "declining" R1S sales 2 full years in a row. Declining R1S sales and severely declining R1T sales. Negative growth!
2022 24.1k X, 800 R1S
2023 24.7k X, 23.4k R1S
2024 19.8k X, 19.7k R1S
2025 13k X, 18.1k R1s

This is coming. There was a hidden easter egg showing it on an actual Tesla corporate promo video of future products. I would dump my R1S in a heartbeat.

You should dump your R1S TODAY so we never have to hear from you again. This is still ugly as fuck.

They were winding them down the S & X have been discontinued, they are moving into the future and retrofitting the factory to instead build humanoid robots in the next few months. S&X was only about 3% of Tesla vehicle sales. Robots is were the future and new money is.

Outside of "the looks" the Cybertruck actually is a far better vehicle than the R1T. Price, technology, features, functions, performance, charging, service ect...
Again, take the physical looks out of the equation.
