Also, if Rivian has any hope of surviving without a merger (paging GM - they have $$ Rivian needs and Rivian has EVs GM needs) they need to think about devoting some capacity at Normal to R2. Even if they get the Georgia plant operational, they will need a year to get it fully humming and they won't have the output capacity that they need to sell enough R2 vehicles to survive.

They need a change in strategy, and they need it now. If I were them, I would all but shut down the R1T line (they have very little demand signal for that right now) and I would focus on R2 at Normal.

Me too. And surely more expensive (less profitable) than a standard hard roof, or a sun roof option.

The glass itself is more expensive than metal, but the total cost of material and labor is almost certainly lower for glass roofs now. The large hole facilitates more use of robotics, and "filling" that hole with glass just requires adhesive and gaskets. With a metal roof you have to install the metal very late, and you have to put in a headliner and other trim on the interior.

I wish all manufacturers who DO make the glass roofs standard, would at least incorporate some kind of OEM sun shade (or get fancy-shmancy like the BMW iX and have an electro-chromatic-something-something roof that can change opacity).

It looks like the pillars are pretty thin/narrow, which obviously I'm basing on a pretty sketchy pic of a shadow, but that could make for an incredibly open, cabin area.

I'm really hoping for a boxy look. Bronco Sport-ish or a small version of the R1S. No tear drop, please. We have enough of that.
