Anyone have any word/idea on when Rivian will actually start selling the new covers (to be installed on G1 trucks) in the Gear Shop? All I can get is "sometime in 2025" which is the standard Rivian response to anything.... "sometime in the future....", which usually means not going to happen..... :-(

Its back compatible, we know that. And similarly, Both my local service center and Rivian CS said the V2 would be coming to the gear shop/available for purchase and install likely by late summer/fall. I would assume end of the year, but either way, promising because I am a bit tired of my manual tonneau.

I must have been one of the lucky ones. My 2024 Purchased in May 2024 had the cover on it from the factory. So far it has worked fine.

There was a window of nearly a year late 2022 through most of 2023. where Rivian produced R1T's without the powered tonneau cover. Some were allowed to add it after the fact, others were told to order a manual cover instead.

The tonneau yours is equpped with is the Gen 1.5, with individual slats that couple and decouple as it deploys. Gen 1 tonneau (early days) was the same just with a slightly less robust drive system.

The Gen 2.0 tonneau cover which has just surfaced on the Dune edition and other newer 2025 year models is a tonneau with smaller slats, and each of those is permanently connected to the other via a hinge of sorts, and rolls up into a coil at the rear of the bed. This one is the new gold standard that those that didn't get tonneau covers are trying to get on their non PT Gen 1 R1T's
