I'm a tire guy and hope I can change to a more aggressive tread pattern without killing millage. The Nitto Ridge Grappler is my favorite tread pattern that is still very quiet on the road. Looks like the LT285/50R22 is roughly the correct height but much wider than stock. Do people think this size would work without rubbing?

This isn't something you can guess at so until someone takes delivery and mounts a set of tires in this size, we won't know for sure. However, given that Emme Hall had rubbing issues with the stock AT tires during the Rebelle Rally, I am very doubtful that there is adequate room for a wider tire.

That said, you should really be looking at the 20" rims for this application (more sidewall and lighter weight forged wheels) and Nitto does offer the correct 275/65R20 size which, in theory, should ensure no rubbing.

Nice info and great question. As with so many things we've been ruminating about, we'll just have to wait to find out.

We're a day closer than we were yesterday......⏳

I also noticed 20" would be a better fit for the Ridge Grappler size range. My only issue is that I don't like the look of the Rivian 20" compared to the 22" pattern. I parked next to a new Escalade yesterday with 22's w/ Ridge Grapplers that looked fantastic.

You certainly wouldn't be the first person to make a bad decision simply because you like "the look".

I replaced BFG AT/KOs on my Tundra 4WD with the Nitto Ridge Grappler's last year. I also liked the look. Terrible decision. They are absolutely worthless in snow/ice. First trip out, I got stuck in the *parking lot* of a local ski resort and had to spend an hour with a shovel. They even struggle in town on steep hills in the city with a little water or frost. With the BFGs the Tundra was a beast. With the Nittos, I get nervous every time I go out. I'm sticking with the stock tires when I replace the Tundra. Can't wait for traction again.

@DallasBBQ , the 285 is only 1 cm wider than the 275, but it's also over .5" taller than the standard 22" size. I don't know how Rivian will handle accommodating ride height controls etc for the different tire/wheel combos.

I would definitely recommend using a 20" wheel for a Ridge Grappler in the same size tire as Rivian. I believe it should be a somewhat standard wheel size & offset, so why not just go aftermarket for a 20" wheel you like?

Also, are you just a BBQ lover, or actually in the business?

Feels like 20" is probably the way to go based on all the comments. Other concern is the Ridge Grappler in the stock size of 275/65/20 is almost 2" wider. 10.98 vs 9.1 It will be interesting to see what fits.

Actually, the Pirelli's section width (overall width as listed by Nitto) is listed as 11" vs the 10.98" of the Nitto. The width of the 20" shouldn't be an issue.

275 is the width in mm, so as long as you stick with that you'll be fine @DallasBBQ .

Man, isn't that the truth! It's funny to have the BBQ theme tied together with making bad decisions based on looks. Years ago, I asked a woman I had just met out to dinner, and I have to admit, looks played a large part in that decision. It's only after we got seated in a very nice Steakhouse that things got sideways quickly.

It turns out that while I am an unabashed carnivore, she was a man-hating psychopath with Turrets.

It took a good ten to twelve dates to find some common ground, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

I think I knew her too, that type tends to be in places like Austin & Portland.

The heart is a powerful force.

Many proud Portlanders embrace our originality and love wearing the bumper sticker that proclaims "Keep Portland Weird". While it is cool, I've had to explain to many that we borrowed that theme from Austin.

Very good to know! You have to be happy to have Winter fading away. I hope they're at least fairly decent on dry pavement, even if that's still not a regular thing around our parts for a few more months.

By the way, welcome to the Forum! Lots of great, sharp people around here. I'm here, too....?
