Not connecting to Home WIFI

Hi

Took delivery yesterday & once home tried, (unsuccessfully), multiple times to connect to our home WiFi. Our phones inside the car were showing 2 out 3 bars connection to the home WiFi network, but the car still wouldn’t connect.

Any help or suggestions, very much appreciated.

Hi, apologies, not really a tech person, it’s a mesh system, maybe 4 years old, that covers the entire house & garden, connected to 1gb fibre.

Mesh can be problematic. Try turning off band steering and set the SSID to only allow a single band (2.4 or 5 GHz). Also, remove any special characters you may have in your SSID name.

I don’t have a mesh system, I have seven WiFi APs connected via cat6 backhawl, and still my Rivians have trouble connecting. Three of these APs are within 30 feet of the cars. Same story: phones inside the car have a great signal, but the cars struggle. Rivian must use a terrible WiFi antenna and/or a super cheap chipset.

I have the opposite issue. My truck connects to my UniFi system at such a long range, I have to drive down the road before it shifts to LTE...

I had a similar issue: could see all of my neighbor’s WiFi, but not mine. Tried all of the prior suggestions (e.g., turning off the 5G version, rebooting, etc…), nothing. There were no special characters in the SSID, just letters & numbers.

Then, on a whim, I turned on my Guest network…and it saw that. So, I created a strong password, and am using the Guest network for my R1T. In retrospect, that’s probably the better option as that network is not visible to my normal network.

I suggest creating a new WiFi name (SSID), for example, Things, making it 2.4 Ghz only (no 5 or 6 Ghz), and setting WPA2 for security (not WPA3). This is a common issue with IoT devices like sprinklers and lighting controls. Making this an isolated guest network is a good idea because dumbing your settings down like this is not very secure. The other issue I have seen is that sometimes too many Wi-Fi networks can confuse a device, and you have to use the manual adding option by typing in the SSID name and password.

Try an infotainment reset. I connect to a 2ghz WIFI network, that works better when there are distances involved.

Yes this. There is a fix to add support of special characters in the upcoming software release.

The funny thing is, the built-in hotspot in the truck uses WPA3, but the Wi-Fi doesn't seem to support it...
