Ocean coast interior after extended mule use

This is what I got to see at the first mile event and it seems much lighter than i was expecting in person. Obviously phone Photo does some tricks.

Thank you so much for the pics. I really want to like it but the wood looks so pale. I had some pickled oak kitchen cabinets back in the 80s that had a pink hue. My wife liked them but that’s not I want in my awesome truck.

Anyone wish Rivian had offered a saddle-colored interior with the Forest edge or OC stained wood? Saddle would be awesome.
I love the wood stain in forest edge, but the green seats remind me of the 1974 Ford Torino station wagon my parents had when I was a kid (or an avocado colored appliance from the 1970s).

I think they should have just used the brown wood from the FE interior as standard for all. Then offered a black wood or carbon fiber upgrade option for those who wanted that look. A lighter wood option in OC does make sense for the coastal vibe, but I think they should have went with a light grey stain or finish instead of that bleached and pickled look.

For those thinking of replacing or refinishing the wood, don't forget the wood on the center console, doors and on the seat backs.

I agree 100% that the FE wood could be made standard across all interiors with other extra cost options if people want to upgrade to something unique.

Plus those 2 pieces on the steering wheel. I appreciate them going the extra distance towards luxury by putting real wood there, but I could see it becoming worn or getting oils/dirt ground into the rough surface on a high-touch area.

Overall, I prefer OC over the others, but when I see the image of that steering wheel from the driver's view, I really don't like it. The gray airbag cover with the pale wood just looks cheap/off in some way to me. But the black interior looks too dark overall, so I'm pretty torn.

If its real wood I still wonder if we can stain the wood. The images in the configurator look awesome to me but the real life wood looked very white if that's the case with mine I will try to do a stain.

Just to put to rest any doubt, this is straight from the Rivian website. And, having sat in one, I can confirm it is indeed real wood.

The front surround is crafted to feel like a piece of solid furniture, with real, natural-grained ash wood wrapping around our center display

I’m hoping that the light airbag cover on OC isn’t too reflective or present too much glare in bright sun. I know some manufacturers would’ve gone with the black airbag cover for all 3 interior colors but I can see how that isn’t as luxe as a color-keyed cover.

I tend to like the “less is more” aesthetic so I actually prefer the simpler Explore steering wheel. It’s the same for both interior colors on that trim level: basically black, metal (metal-look?), and a Rivian logo as shown in this pic from the configurator.

I personally like the light wood asthetic, especially being near the coast, but I agree with some here that they could have gone with more of a driftwood gray instead of the natural look that they decided on (especially in light of the fact that the seats are more of a light gray than white).

Then again, my ancestors who were longbowmen would certainly approve of the natual Ash wood trim.

There were some photos where the wood appeared to have a honey-colored tint in the stain, but it was confirmed to be camera/lighting nuance. I think that might be the ideal tint, even better than the FE stain.

I would be interested in products that would help preserve the wood and give it a richer color. Our I3 has the light colored wood and the grain has definitely become more raised and a bit sun bleached. I may need to experiment on it.

I fully embrace other people experimenting on their wood trim and reporting their findings to the rest of us.

The other day I drove past a mule parked so of course I stopped to check it out. It appeared to be a production-like le/adv ocean coast interior and the truck clearly had seen heavy usage:

• The wood paneling looked very faded, very dry/cracking, and almost peeling in places. Night & day in color and finish compared to what I drove at a first mile event. The photo I took doesn't do it justice given the limited angle due to glare, but if you zoom in you can get a sense of what I'm referring to. My big concern is that the wood interior is not going to last very long without dedicated attention/upkeep. How are folks thinking about keeping this looking fresh?
• I have seen lots of concerns on this forum that the Ocean Coast leather will get extra dirty / have color bleed / etc. I didn't see any of that. The seats definitely looked extensively used, but the color was essentially the same I saw on display at a first mile event.

The Ocean Coast interior is absolutely not fit for purpose and everyone needs to immediately make a warranty claim to Rivian to fix it. But unless everyone does this in unison, they will simply replace crap for crap. The outside layer is absolutely peeling off on every single surface of our R1S. Totally unacceptable for a vehicle with less than 30k miles that’s costs $100,000+.
