I love my Rivian. I would buy it 100 out of 100 times. Anyone on the waitlist or order queue should be excited and thrilled that they ordered one. Here’s the one month review of 5 things to improve:

1. Driver Screen: Redesign the Drivers screen Instrument panel to be cooler and more useful and more car like. It’s just a criminal waste of the available space. I really don’t care about the car visualization that dominates the screen. We don’t need such a large visualization of the selected gear taking up 1/3 of itnso lamely. Also I’ve said before I really dislike turn signal feedback as being too limp and soft causing me to leave them on all the time (feel so silly!)

2. AC/Heat: Fix the climate controls - I don’t really understand them it’s blowing cold air when it says it’s hot air. It’s just not intuitive and it’s not an EV thing our other one a Volvo Cx40 climate controls work fine like normal ICE car . I can live with it of course but hope it’s the focus of a 2024 update. Also allow backseat drivers to control it from their screen as many have said.

3. Audio: I would like better music controls, better equalizer graphic design. Better sound setting options. I haven’t even figured out how to save my custom equalizer setting as a new “mode”? It could be so much slicker looking and feels like an afterthought graphic that’s hard to adjust and read

4. Dumb Thing: Allow high ride setting in all purpose up to 75 mph unless it is a specific safety and stability hazard. It’s fine I don’t care about lost range or soft issues, etc. just give us the choice.

5. Phone Integration: phone Bluetooth is weird. The phone sometimes rings on both my phone and the car at same time. Sometimes the car volume is insanely loud on ring. It’s something they can definitely fix!

This is such a fun rig and I love it. If they get to anything on this list it’ll make a great EV even more awesome!

For concern 4 - Rally Mode allows this; but you lose sensors (so no ACC/Driver+)

I'm certain the Rivian HVAC programmer has "slot machine developer" on his/her resume because using climate control is a gamble. These HVAC controls are another over-engineered / reimagined functionality gone bad.

Yesterday night, like 9pm, I jump in a cold car, it was 34°F outside, cabin temp was set to 65°F and the A/C started blowing on me.... I hope it gets it right when I use pet mode?!

By all means leave an "auto" control for the gamblers among us but please give us fewer-risk-taking individuals a button(s) to turn on/off heat, turn on/off A-C, or vent - and let the temp setting be a temp setting.

Speaking of buttons & HVAC, does anyone else think that the arrow inside the Air Recirculation button should change based on its setting? As it is, it always shows a recirculate arrow even when it is set to allow air into the cabin. So when the button is light or dark, it isn't really easy to know what the actual setting is.

And, as always, I'm open to the possibility that I'm wrong, that I'm not using the HVAC controls the way they were intended, though I will insist that vehicle climate control shouldn't be engineered in a way that would require retraining.

+1 for turn signal.
A larger, blinking at the mid height of the screen would be nice. In my setting, the top of steering wheel blocks the left/right turn signal blinking.
