Ordering from R1 Shop

I have access to R1 Shop now and I want to order an R1S Quad. The exact configuration I want is also available. However, I am not able to find if it is 23 model or 24 model (VIN numbers are not visible until I accept a configuration). I understand that functionality-wise, 23 and 24 are the same but I would assume the resale value would be different few years down the road (isn't it?). I don't have any guide assigned yet (I guess they get assigned after I accept a configuration) but called up Rivian few times and talked to Service and Engagement teams and neither could tell the VIN. Few questions:

a) If I accept the configuration from shop, will it immediately show me the VIN number of the exact vehicle selected (it says delivery date is 1-2 weeks away)?

b) If I find that the 10th digit of VIN is N or P and not R (22 or 23 model instead of 24), can I decline it and ask for them to see if 24 model is available?

c) Assuming I can decline, if they are not able to find a 24 model, can I go back to waiting or do I have to select something immediately else forfeit my $1k deposit and go back to beginning of the line?

d) In the online configurator within shop, Quad motor configuration option has not shown up for few months now as per threads on this forum - does that mean all shop quad motors were manufactured few months ago and hence are all 23 models?

e) Has anyone received a 24 quad motor model?

They don’t want to disclose the VIN ahead of time because they understand there is a perception that “older” VINs won’t be selected.

I have 3 Rivians, so I was able to ask the Guide for the exact vin of a 4th one I was looking at. It was showing as 1-2 weeks, so it was definitely at either Miami or Orlando. They provided me the VIN and it was an Q1 or Q2 2023 build on a R1T. So I passed on that one.

I am not sure if any Quads are 2024s yet.

I have a Quad R1S on order and am told it is in production now, so maybe a bunch of Quads available soon?

I selected an R1S from the shop just before Christmas but it was a 2023 VIN. Had my guide release it and asked every week if he saw any 2024 VINs. A couple days after New years he found one so I asked him to assign it to me. So I have it coming. Would like it ASAP but they said it can take up to 5 weeks to ship by rail.

So if you want a 2024 it might be best to go through a guide. As others have said, the Rivian R1S shop seemingly intentionally doesn't give this info.

I'm surprised Rivian produced 2023s so late in the year.

Edit.. Just noticed, thats 1300 from December 21st, to whenever yours was built. Looks like they are trying to pick up production numbers.
