Took delivery of our R1S Tri yesterday at the Olathe, KS service center. The employees at Olathe are all top notch. KS is one of those states that does not allow direct to consumer sales so the process gets a little more complicated. Emma, Jacob and Deanna at Olathe were all very responsive to all my questions and requests. Also a shout out to Wendy in Normal, IL for answering all my financial and leases questions.

Here was our timeline for others curious or worried about the order and delivery process:

Sept '24 we took a 30 minute demo drive of the Dual Standard - were impressed but not ready to buy/lease yet

Jan '25 we started thinking about pulling the trigger on a dual max even though we didn't need a vehicle until Summer - worried the $7,500 tax credit would go away

Jan 18th picked up an R1S dual max for an extended test drive - pleasantly surprised the SC was closed on MLK day so had it until Tuesday morning - had plenty of time to evaluate charging curves at superchargers (SC provided an adapter)

Jan 21st dropped off loaner and told my sales advisor were worried about the tax credit going away but needed to see if any Q1 incentives happen - got a text within an hour of leaving the service center that up to 6k in cash from Rivian was just announced on R1 lease/purchases

Started doing the math on whether getting a Tri makes sense for resale since it got the full 6k incentive - went back to SC and pickup up their R1S Tri demo for an overnighter - confirmed charge curve a supercharger and really liked the Ascend interior over the Adventure interior.

Jan 22nd put a deposit on an R1S Tri in inventory that had our exact color/interior/wheel preference

Jan 27th received call that vehicle had arrived and they could do delivery on Jan 29th - signed lease document and paid our lease up front charges via their Plaid wire service

Jan 28th I went to service center and did a thorough inspection. Had front door alignment issues that had me very worried. They assured me they could get them aligned properly and asked if delaying delivery by a day or two was an option - received call later that afternoon that they had aligned doors and they were now flush and delivery could go forward the next day

Jan 29th wife and I took delivery and the entire process including setting up PAAK took less than 30 minutes - doors were fixed and we were very happy

So our R1S was delivered seven days after placing our deposit

We intend to buyout the lease immediately and I'll do a thread on that process with Chase/Rivian and whether it comes out close to our math. Our money factor converts to over 9% so no way we are riding the lease out

Fantastic choice. The blue on black looks superb.

To be fair to Rivian on my end for experiences, they've always done a fantastic job, and interactions with their teams be it online, on the phone, or in person, have been great.

Cheers on the new wheels!

The most refreshing part of the process is that it's cut and dry. It's like buying something from Best Buy - you either want it or not. No sleazy sales dude with bad acting chops in a cheap suit trying to convince you how much he cares about you.

Thank you for posting your positive experience...I'm afraid too many people use the forum to explain what's wrong and that can lead people who come to visit us think that EVERYONE has had an issue with their Rivian. It's simply not true, but you'd never know that from looking at the majority of the posts here.

Two suggestions for you as a new Rivian owner:
  • Get a set of Jack Pucks and keep them in your Rivian - you just never know when you may need them and you can't count on a random tire place that you have to use because of a blowout on a trip having them
  • It looks from the photo that parking in your garage is tight...I use a laser parking pointer that allows me to pull in to the same spot each time and not worry about my garage door hitting the back of the R1S. Just a thought...

Nice wheels! In addition to the above recommendations, I suggest checking out Rivian Clubs of America. I know KSC has an active group. https://rivianclubs.org/

Paid members have access to a number of discounts at places where you can pick up those jack pucks mentioned above as well as adventure gear from my small biz. :)

Congrats! I had a great experience back in December at Richmond, Virginia SC. Took about 30 minutes.

Pay off of lease is going through today.
