I agree, but the profits of parking garages/lots do not agree. We as consumers want better safer service, they want more profit and less work.
I do not think Big Parking is the correct villain in this scenario. Having infrastructure that requires parking garages and massive surface lots is the real issue.

I agree, but the "big Parking" interests need to build it and support it. That includes either stronger structures, or bigger parking spaces, their choice.

Costs of maintenance increase exponentially with vehicle weight, as does the cost of construction. Again, the arms race of heavier and heavier vehicles, and 6 story buildings that are capable of storing those heavier vehicles is not sustainable. The sheer financials just do not work out long term no matter which way you look at it. Either you pay egregious parking fees, or you subsidize public parking through tax revenues for road maintenance that cripple municipalities.

More parking garages isn't the answer, building better infrastructure that allows more people to leave their car at home results in a better experience for everyone.

I agree, the urban model is a bad one in an aoutomotive application. Especially big automotive. I am a rural mountain elevations, 5,000 ft. + with snow, I have a Rivian Truck for its high ground clearance. Parking buildings can charge from $3. to $90. in my direct experience. Regardless the price, the parking proprietor is responsible for structure and if need be the spaces need be biger. I agree, massive concrete buildings able to hold 500 larger EV's is not a smart ticket. Large urban areas could have ground parking outside the dense areas and transit to the center of the area as well smaller cabs to move people around. NY city had electric cabs back in the 30's things change dont they !
