My wife and I got new iPhones. Went from 14 promax to 16 promax. A couple weeks ago when I got into the vehicle for the first time the screen prompted me to set up the new phone which went flawlessly. However since the phone migrated from the old phone the name of the phone remained “iPhone 14” so I had two of the same name on the vehicle under my name. It worked so I didn’t delete the old one since couldn’t tell which one it was (same name).

Fast forward one month. Wife goes to drive the car but her phone was not set up after the new phone. We go to set her up (after appropriately changing the name on her phone to say iPhone 16 so we can delete the old profile) and it gets as far as the screen with the yellow set up button but clicking it on the central screen does nothing.

So far I’ve tried.
Hard reset
Soft reset
Sleep cycle
Turning Rivian Bluetooth on and off
Turning Rivian hotspot on and off
Turning Rivian LTE on and off (hard reset)
Cycling Bluetooth on the phone
Deleting her phone from my Rivian app.
Forgetting all Rivian Bluetooth connections on phone
Forgetting both iPhones from the Rivian Bluetooth screen
Logging in and out of the app
Deleting the app, reinstalling
Rebooting the iPhone

Still nothing.

So I called Rivian support. The nice gentleman told me to delete my phone profile from the Rivian. Now granted my phone works fine for PAAK. I was very hesitant. He reassured me oh it’s because you didn’t delete your iPhone 14 so the car is confused. Ok.

I deleted my phones from the Rivian. He reassured me you can connect yours just fine. For good measure did a hard and soft reset. So we go to set up my phone as it now unpaired/deleted. And it’s stuck on the non responsive “set up phone” button now too. Argh! Should have known to not do it. Now both phones (mine and the wife’s) are not working as PAAK.

The Rivian phone tech said whoops this must a software issue. Will address it with a service appt. ?

Now I’ll have to carry the key fob around like a heathen. To add insult to injury now that my phone is unpaired I also lose access to some updates on the app and the live camera feature.

Update: 11/25 got the 2024.43 installed tonight and it seems to have resolved the paak issue.

I've been through this. Call customer support and they will walk you through the procedure. You have most of it, but as I recall it includes using the Owner phone to remove the secondary one on both the vehicle and the app. A reboot of the infotainment system, then re adding the phone. I also recall turning Bluetooth off and on on one, if not both phones. I had a great support person and in 20 minutes everything was back to normal.

Thanks. Did all of that already. Used my app to delete wife’s profile and reissued new invitation for phone as key. The frustrating part was they had me delete my phone from the car as well and mine was working fine. Now I can’t pair my phone for PAAK.

The tech on the phone was polite and professional. I am kicking myself for deleting my phone on their suggestion though. Better to leave well enough alone.

I had a prior service appt booked for today. So luckily this issue was added on as another service item. The service writer went "oh this is very interesting..." However there does appear to be some incompatibility with the PAAK bluetooth module with 39.01.2024 and the iphone 16 on ios 18.1.

I have no issues with the bluetooth audio. That pairs instantly. But the bluetooth PAAK, that is one that fails.

Update

Received vehicle back. PAAK still broken. Was told not a hardware issue but a software fix will need to be issued with no ETA on resolution. I was told “the engineers are working on it..”. So I’m still stuck using the key fob without any updates on the phone over the Rivian app. Very very frustrating.
