@Riviot posted the official install instructions from the service manual or whatever a few posts back in this thread...it had a note about needing to use a cut off wheel to remove what looks like a steel peg from the truck body in the bed to make room for the cover, and that was for "vehicles built before may 22, 2023"

That isn't harness related but wonder if there is a connection.

THAT is surprising. Dec '22 build should still have the harness.
Sticker on the door says 1/23 but Rivian Romer says mid December 2022. I have a PN vin less than 1,000.

I bought the vehicle used so I don't know how it was ordered. I'm currently using the Interrobang manual cover.

Good point. Mine was built on 5/30. But I probably won't take the plunge. Not until reliability is known and I have enough referral points to make it less painful.

Not a bad thing. V2 is still a cover with moving parts and more potential failure points than manual. If you don't tend to cover/uncover often, it's not worth the upgrade.

Update : New PTC is installed and works great and is silent from inside the truck. Apparently they just got 10 more in at the local service center so they are getting more with time. Took a little over a day for the install for anyone wondering.

Cheers for everyone else getting theirs.

Sound included for those who are curious.

My new rollup PTC was just installed yesterday.

To refresh folks who might not have read my previous post, one slat of my Gen 2’s 1.5 PTC got stuck sideways early August. Visited SC right away who said only fix was a full replacement. They confirmed at the time I’d get the rollup version.

Original appointment was set for September 19th but parts hadn’t come in yet. They rebooked me for September 29th and luckily all parts came in on time late last week.

It took them a day to install it as well as do the headlight recall work and replace my front half shafts based on a service bulletin (I hadn’t noticed a problem). So, just the PTC replacement should take less than a day.

My new PTC operates as others have stated: smoother, quieter and instilling more confidence in its longevity than the previous one.

Adding as a datapoint. Just had the new one installed on mine and it took a day. My VIN is 9xxx and I already had the original replaced with the 1.5 version. New one is crazy smooth and can't compare it to the old ones at all. Hopefully it works for a long time but just from first impressions, it seems so much better engineered.

My truck never had a PTC until now. Happy to have v2 now. It does chug a little when opening, not concerning though.
