Preconditioning improves the charging curve but does use energy. When routing to a charger, the vehicle will precondition if and when and for how long it thinks is necessary. There is absolutely no chance of damaging the battery if you don't precondition.So, a related question, what happens if it does not pre-condition before stopping at a DCFC? Does it hurt the battery, or just use lower power?
Regardless, the whole premise of this thread is wrong. In particular:
- Tesla superchargers that are open - both Magic Dock and those open to Rivians with a NACS adapter, ARE MAPPED in the Rivian navigation. Period.
- If you route to an open Tesla supercharger, your Rivian WILL precondition if it decides it needs to precondition.
