Day ONE November 2018 pre-order here, likely one of the 1st 500 - back when no one ever heard of the company
Conversations with my guide - zero
Delays - many (recall the note that all pre-orders would be delivered by Thanksgiving?)
Number of times neighbors have asked when it’s coming in - hundreds
Price increase - a massive one (but not so for those who ordered after me but received before me)
Cars I purchased while waiting - 2
I could go on
Please, please give me reasons why should I not cancel?

This is a tough and jagged pill for most of us. Don't do anything rash and talk to customer support before you cancel. those are my only recommendations.

Reason one:
when you placed your deposit on day one, the entry price was listed as the same as it is right now.

So you've had one price decrease and one price increase to cancel out the decrease.

Agree with above. I would suggest just checking with them to confirm they would honor the old price, but also wouldn't blame you for canceling.

Yes but that was before Ford and GM offered competitive products at cheaper prices

I kinda hate that the first time I’m posting on here after lurking for a few years, is because I'm seriously considering bailing on my reservation and feel the need to vent. Similar to Blaze, I placed an early order in Dec ’18 (R1T LE White w/ kitchen). I have patiently waited my time and just watched a succession of info come out of Rivian along the lines of “You’re not getting that feature we teased after all…..but thanks for going on this journey with us”

To mention just a few things that turned into vaporware:

  • Polarized moonroof
  • 180 degree tailgate
  • Powered Tailgate
  • Included spare tire
  • Underbody skid-plate
  • Guide Call
It now appears that despite a bone being thrown to the LE holders to include the powered Tonneau, my reservation has now increased in price by about $18,750.

Now I never thought it was going to be necessary to take screen grabs of the configurator to prove what the prices have been over the last 4 years, but here’s my recall of the changes:

Base R1T $73,000 now $85,000

White paint included, now $1750

Ocean Coast interior included, now $2000

Camp Kitchen $5,0000, now $6,750 (the ONE extravagance that made my wife STOKED about the truck)

Spare Tire – was included originally, then an extra with a price decrease, so it’s hard to even remember whether it’s always been effectively $900.

Crossbars $450, now $500.

The delivery charge isn’t even mentioned in all this either……

Even allowing for my memory being a little off, I have clear recall that my final price was around $78,000. So however Rivian tries to spin the “It’s-The-Supply-Chain-Bro’ argument this is going to be the last straw for a lot of us who are genuinely trying to make better carbon choices and support innovative industries. I can see this being a paradigm shift for Rivian who may abandon the truck / SUV sector and end up focusing on Amazon vans when they wake up to find all their supporters said “ Screw this, I’m buying a (insert alternative here) instead.

Tough day for the e-believers…….
