Hello all, I am very new here. I have been a Tesla driver since 2018 but switched to Rivian yesterday. That said, I still have several Tesla's. In my garage I have a Gen 3 Wall Connector that is the leader to a new Tesla Universal Charger (shared 60amp circuit). When I try to charge my new R1S at the Universal Connector it stays at 48amps too long if plugged in first. It will charge and then when the Tesla starts pulling amps the Rivian will lower its pull, but then error with 7 red blinks on the universal wall connector. In limited testing it seems that when I start charging on the Tesla and then the Rivian the load sharing works fine. I can limit the R1S to 24 amps all the time, but that seems like the wrong approach. To avoid the 7 red blinks of overcurrent error, I created schedules in my Tesla's and Rivian to avoid any overlap. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Isn’t the universal supposed to be the leader?

Good question. I didn't read anything about that anywhere and I have tried it both ways. Same results.

Hmmm. I will say that if I set my Rivian to 48 amps, it will only charge for like 30-40 minutes then error out. I’ve heard of alot of people having this issue.

Leveraging the schedule I referenced in my first post, I charged at 48amps for over 3 hours last night. As long as there is no other vehicle plugged in, the charging is fine. That said, that defeats the purpose of power sharing.

That’s doesnt sound right. I’ve charged for many hours at 48 amps with no issues. Gen 1.

Do the other chargers support load sharing?

One charger is a Tesla Wall Connector Gen3 the other is the Tesla Universal Wall Connector. They are configured to leverage group power management and share the same circuit, so they both support load sharing. The Gen3 is the leader, and the universal is the follower. I have tried both ways, no difference.

It only happens during summers here in AZ. I know it’s not my charger because my Y chargers 48 amps no problem year round.

This one is stumping me. I feel like this should be a common setup.

That’s good advice. Tried several times with no luck.

The man already has two chargers installed and they should work as described and advertised.

I would call Tesla support and have them troubleshoot with you on the phone.

Agreed, this should work as designed. Plus, I don’t want to be constantly switching cars. As it is I have 4 EV’s and can only charge two at a time.
Calling is a good suggestion. I will see what they can do.
