Switch to turn off 1-pedal driving for those that don't like it.

I'd accept a switch for new drivers who need to develop the "oh shit I need to move my foot to the brake pedal" reflex. But just not liking it? Weirdos.

Been driving EVs for 5 years. Do not use 1 pedal. Have exact same regen regardless.

You'll figure it out, I believe in you.
I have no desire to figure it out. Tried it, don't like it. Wife tried it, doesn't like it. With our vehicles, since there is zero difference in regen using it or not using it, we choose not to.

Drove an R1S on Saturday, didn't like 1 pedal. So, added it to the Gen 3 wishlist as we might not consider one without a switch to turn it off.

That is because your Ford vehicles use brake blending. That means when you press on the brake pedal, it uses the motors to slow the vehicle until you press too hard for the motors to be enough. When that happens, Ford blends in friction brakes with the regen to slow faster than regen alone can do.

Rivian does NOT have blended braking. That means if you turn off regen, you will have zero recharging when slowing, and horrible efficiency. That is why Rivian does not let you turn it off.

Rivian claims they don't do brake blending because of the way it feels when using the brakes with brake blending. It is hard to do, and Ford has received complaints from people who notice when the friction brakes start blending in.

That would be fine, except the Rivian accelerator requires much more pressure, and to hold it. As we were driving during the demo, my wife mentioned this, and the guide's response was "that's why I use cruise control while driving it because my car is a gas vehicle."

Both of us noticed it, and she said after 15 minutes she could feel it in her leg.

After driving Ford EVs for 5 years, I would say that Ford has it figured out now. Took a few updates to the software, but it's very good now.

I suspect Rivian converts largely came from Teslas initially. 1 pedal to 1 pedal. Now the early adopters are in, and more people from non-Teslas are in the market, especially as 3 and 4 year leases end.

It sounds like you should not get a Rivian.

I have never owned a Tesla. My first BEV was a Mach-e. I love 1PD. So your Tesla theory is wrong. And my R1T is freaking awesome. It's too bad it isn't for you.

Capitalism provides choices and there are lots of other options out there for you. Isn't capitalism great?

Bet you a beer that a huge percentage of Rivian owners came from Tesla.

I would probably adapt fine to 1 pedal. My wife doesn't like it. Nor did she like it when I drove with it, so I turned it off.

Well, there aren't a lot when I eliminate GM, Stellantis, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, ...

We'll wait and see how the R2 does and how Rivian looks in a year, and then if we buy one it will be for me, which means replacing the Lightning, which I will end up doing in the next few years anyway.

I would not bet a beer on that. I will just buy you a beer anyway. No need to bet.

I only eliminate Chinese spyware vehicles (such as Volvo). That said, I think Rivian's product is a better fit for me than anything from any other manufacturer. Maybe you will find the same is true for you and the R2.

Don't be surprised if R1 goes the way of model S/X before it goes GEN 3. Rivian need to get R2 out, and the volume WAY UP, They need to finalize GA and get that plant running, They need to get R3 ready and launched, They need to expand their service footprint , the market for $100K EVs is small ....They are focused on getting their Autonomy platform built out and operational. The R1 will get minor tweaks at best... if you need a 3-row premium EV with all these features on your "wish list" I don't think it'll come from R1

  • Faster charging I think they could do it with the current battery if they redesigned the cooling but if not a new battery so it holds a higher charging rate for longer
  • Captains chairs with heated and ventilated seats
  • Door handles like the Gen 1 instead of buttons
  • Improved suspension as it is a bit bouncy. Sometimes it rides great and other times it is terrible
