Had the R1S for about a month. We had the EQS SUV for four months and sold it at around 3000 miles. Then bought this. Here is my take:

EQS SUV (VIN was in 1000-1250)
True luxury - Very comfortable
Sound system - one of the best I ever heard
Great range (mine was RWD - so had 1 motor) - terrible range for AWD version or 580 version
No vampire battery drain
Rear wheel steering
Fit and finish is excellent
Slow (felt like it had good power until I bought the R1S)
No frunk
Not the best looks
Not worth the price (more than Rivian and Model X but car shouldn't cost this much for a 1 motor, slow car)
Insurance cost was too high

EQS Issues:
Driver seat was loose (can tell when you accelerate and brake)
The middle seat was not able to be locked in place, so every time some one sat in the middle seat and during turns, the music would go lower and car would give a warning saying middle seat was loose despite it being locked

R1S (VIN is in 6000-6500)
Very sporty
Good looking - I get atleast 2-4 people daily when I park who come take a look, lots of people who give a thumbs up on the road
Fast
Lots of space
Great range with conserve mode
Vampire battery drain (Out of the 7 EV's I have owned the R1S is by far the worst in terms of this)
Sound system is far behind what BMW, Benz offer. I am not an audiophile but I love my music while driving and for relaxation, and I tried tweaking settings with no real great improvement. This was my second biggest disappointment.
Not the most comfortable ride on bumpy roads
Hard for my family to get in/out
Lots of rattles
The main thing I miss: Apple CarPlay

R1S Issues:
I scheduled service for the following issues:
Charge port door unaligned
Leather on steering wheel is coming undone
Cabin rattles: worst is from passenger middle row door handle area on roof
Clicking noise when air suspension changes height (noticeable when you first start driving car and when going from freeway to exit)
Passenger wheel arch is coming off
Driver door rubs on front door panel causing paint to chip off
Scratch in frunk that looked like it was buffed before delivery
Trunk lower half has paint erosion/missing on bottom right corner
Right rear paint edge missing next to rear lower deck lid (we notified at the time of delivery to the agent)
This started within the last few days: When car starts and the vent opens in the front it makes a rattle noise until it is fully open
In one of the trips, the middle screen kept resetting every few minutes, until we stopped and restarted car

Hope you make service tickets for those issues. They should be able to address all of them
Agree. With a VIN in the 2000's our R1S had a number of these little imperfections and they were all taken care of quickly and easily by service. My experience with the service team has been very good. Here's the deal: Would I have preferred to receive the car 1 year later with none of these imperfections vs being an early adopter? No way. I look forward to driving it every single day.

I do feel that there is a bit of a problem though with the R1S. It's not a road car like so many luxury SUV's and it may disappointng some of those buyers who are looking for that type of vehicle. It's a rugged vehicle that crosses over into the luxury segment and does some of that luxury stuff pretty well, but the true value in it are all the other capabilities that the vehicle possesses and are far beyond what those luxury suv's have.

For the stereo, if you haven't already, adjust the fader in addition to the EQ. The default factory setting on mine had it centered over the first row seats which sounded absolutely horrible. After adjusting the fader to be centered toward the back of the 2nd row seats, things really improved. Not saying its the best I've ever heard by any means but combined with my EQ tweaks, it's no longer offensive and I can actually enjoy listening to music in the car again.

I turned the surround sound from enhanced to on. after that It is somehow better.
I did that orignially as well. After adjusting the fader as mentioned above, I've actually gone back to enhanced.

? this. More enriching sub in the S as well centered on front of back seats. Nail your EQ along with Ultra HD Amazon or Master Tidal and I’ve been v. Happy.
