Does anyone have a R1S in addition to an ICE SUV?

I currently have both an R1S and a Defender 110 on order. The D110 should be here in Oct 2023 and the R1S delivery window recently moved up to Jan / Feb 2024. I'm debating keeping one or both vehicles. Ideally, the R1S would be able to do everything. But, I'm still not comfortable with the added headache / logistical challenge of charging en-route on ski / snowboard trips to Mammoth or Tahoe. The Rivian Adventure Network is still somewhat limited. As more Rivians get delivered, it will likely become more difficult to charge on busy / holiday weekends. So, part of me would like to have an ICE SUV for those trips. If I also keep the R1S, it will likely be my daily driver and double as a mountain bike hauler.

I suspect many of us have an EV and an ICE vehicle on this forum. Specifically, we are a 2 SUV family. I use the R1S and my wife has her ICE suv (actually hybrid but...). We find ourselves mostly in the R1S during the weekends and road trips. I would be totally comfortable going all EV; but I live on the east coast and ev infrastructure is decent enough up and down 95 for my needs. That said, if I needed to travel West or into the mountains, I probably would take our ice vehicle as EV charging is not so great further away from I95 too get.

So the answer to your question is really all about your personal tolerance to planning ahead and being ok if you run into broken chargers, waits and the few jerks that will leave thier EV plugged in at a charger even after it has reached 100%. With ice, to don't really have to worry about this.

I think your plan sounds reasonable.

Absolutely love our Rivian, I find reasons to go drive it (I've volunteered for a ton more errands according to my wife) and am racking miles on it faster than I anticipated. With that said, we have no plans on getting rid of our ICE SUVs ATM even though they barely get driven once a week. We are still new to the EV world and while our R1 has been functioning perfectly, I've read enough on these forums to know not to totally rely on it just yet (knock on wood).

I have an ICE car as well but it is going to be traded in as soon as BMW builds my wife's new i4M50. I just cannot stand driving ICE anymore so it cannot come soon enough. I drove my wife's Audi to the airport last week for a business trip and drove it back again just yesterday and the driving dynamics of ICE are undesirable. Her Audi is an S car and the S might as well stand for sluggish compared to my Rivian. Her new BMW will be comparable so that's good.

We have an R1T and a Highlander. Will replace the Highlander in a few years with another EV (hopefully an R2S). I haven't found a use case for me that an EV won't work. I usually don't go to the middle of nowhere unless you consider northern Minnesota.
