Off on a road trip adventure soon and wanted to better organize stuff. Across the top can sit 4 foot long things (tent, folding beds, etc), I have full access to the under floor cargo area, and I found bins that I can perfectly fit 3 of under the shelf, even with a little room behind them for other things. My hardest part was figuring out how to secure the shelf so it didn't slide. I settled on some child care seat straps that attach nicely to the rear tethers. :) Still deciding if I want to paint it black to blend, or keep it wood for natural. :) I will also probably add a strap across the back to keep the bins there.

Just wanted to share. :)

Build notes, this is custom built for this with measurements done as needed. I had to make the shelf slightly smaller so it could actually slide in/out of the back. Build, tweak, build. :)

I assume this is so you selectively access things? I tend to just pack everything in putting something's near the back. I like how people are creative to make bed platforms and storage for overland ING.

Both so I can selectively access things (for car camping in particular) and also so the 4 foot tent/etc has somewhere to sit without creating a bridge and stress on it. :) the 4 foot things will lay across the back by resting on the 3rd row arm rests, but I didn't want the extra stress on the tent. The other option is to put it on something in the middle, but then that thing can't be accessed without taking everything out. :)
