Why did they put cloth on the lower area of the door panel of my amazing R1S. They look terrible all the time with dirt on them from, you know, shoes.

Has anyone ripped off the cloth to find presentable (better) plastic underneath, or is there some other solution?

So far, the dopey popout cupholders from a 1984 BMW 3 series dashboard, plus these cloth lower door panels, are the top things that bother me on this otherwise amazing vehicle.

I guess you have to be more careful when getting in and out of the vehicle so that your shoes don't scuff and dirty the door panel... I pay attention to this for every vehicle I own since they all put a speaker at the bottom corner of the doors.

As for the cup holder that pop out of the center console, I rarely use them so who cares... I don't eat or drink while driving so it just doesn't get used.

As someone who previously had BMW pop out dashboard cup holders, the ones in my R1T are MILES better. I never trusted the BMW cup holders and I’ve never had an issue with the R1T cup holders.

The door panel is a door panel. I’m happy they didn’t switch to cheap hard plastics for the lower part of the panel like many manufacturers do. Helps make the cabin feel premium.

Yes it's true these can get dirty. Plastics can get scuffed up too though unfortunately. The other thing is that cloth will have acoustic benefits as well as provide a more upscale appearance (and soft to the touch). Since those pull out with the elastic holders I think it was a smart move for Rivian to put a premium soft to the touch material there. I frequently use the one on the driver door to hold drunk bottles.

If your going for premium or luxury you need soft surfaces anywhere the driver/passengers will be touching frequently and this is one of those areas.

Some other OEM get around this by shaping the area like a drink bottle or making the opening larger so there isn't really touching of the surface down there just grabbing and pulling the item out.

Being an adventure vehicle doesn't mean you have to act like a savage getting in and out of it!
