R1S current owners - are 3rd row seats removable?

Like many others, I am less than happy with Rivian's latest missive regarding the seat configuration
for the R1S.

I am single, 72, and I need a third row of seats like I need a hole in the head.

Does anyone know if the third row seats are owner removable?

They are not intended to be user removable. With appropriate tool set and motivation and likely some custom trim fabrication, they can be removed. Best bet would just be to fold them flat.

Agree, we reserved an R1S and have no use for 3rd row seats. Would much prefer additional storage and/or larger battery.
Really pissed at the massive price increase and this is just insult on top of injury.

I assume there are seatbelt sensors in the third row that would also need to be "fixed" if you removed the 3rd row.

Back when they first launched the configurator, I asked at least 2 reps about removing the 3rd row. They both told me that it could be done without special tools, but it wasn't designed to be routinely/easily. The design may have changed since then, but that was the response directly from Rivian back then.

Your thread title looking for current owners is limited to the CEO and CFO of the company. Given their abysmal communication skills, you will never get an answer from them.

I couldn't agree more. My BMW x5 and Land Rover discovery both had five seats. It would seem to be very easy for the factory to not install the third row of seats and install a cover instead.
Maybe all of us five seaters should send CS a note requesting this. My delivery isn't scheduled until Q4 22 so there should be lots of time for this adjustment.
