So I just got off my R1S LE Guide call with Jenny H (who's awesome). I'll try to find time to type up a full summary, but here are a few interesting nuggets:
  • Rivian's current goal is to deliver R1S LEs by the end of May to owners who lock in configs now
  • This won't matter for most of you, but you can defer delivery without any issues (I'm deferring to July 1 in order to take advantage of the Illinois tax rebate that goes into effect that day)
  • They are currently producing ALL exterior colors and wheels
  • They are current producing BM and FE interiors, but OC is slightly delayed due to "issues" (Jenny said that she is hoping/expecting that OC will be ready for my delivery in July, so not a huge delay)
  • Locking in your config will trigger fulfillment of your accessory order (meaning that I can get my wall charger well before my R1S arrives)
  • Factory delivery is an option for those within an unspecified radius (ostensibly 2-3 hours) from the Normal plant or with special circumstances (i.e., you live a significant distance 4-5+ hours - from a Rivian location)

Thanks for your update, and congrats! You've gathered more info on delivery timeline than I did on my call yesterday. Hopefully the end of May timeline applies to SoCal orders too:)

Summary:

I had my intro call with my Guide (not Jenny H) yesterday about my R1S. We reviewed my configuration, once in agreement we locked it in (LE R1S LG, BM, 20’ A/T dark).

There was no delivery estimate beyond my March/April window. Now that my order is locked, next update I will get about delivery estimates will be once factory gate happens (the car is built and matched to my order). Then it is transported to SoCal and inspected.

Once these steps are complete, I’ll get a VIN and the 8 steps to complete documents and prepare for delivery.

They should send out a survey for customers willing to make changes to their config or drive out for delivery.

I wonder what they meant by that...Anyone who has a guide assigned will be delivered by end of May if they lock their config? Some had March/April delivery windows. It's just a wierd statement when we can't lock our config on our end. So it depends on a guide locking our config (and having a guide assigned). I guess anyone without a guide assigned for an R1S should expect June+ for delivery.
I think it means those with Mar/Apr delivery windows who are currently having Guide contacts and locking in their configs, NOT that all R1S LEs would be delivered by end of May. In other words, there’s about a one-month delay in R1S deliveries vs the stated delivery windows (at least for the Mar/Apr folks).

Congrats on your progress! I also asked about the process steps from Guide call to delivery, and these were my quick/rough notes as Jenny went through it:
  1. Confirm config
  2. Guide looks for match
  3. Match to VIN
  4. Email with PBA
  5. Sign PBA
  6. Transit to delivery center
  7. Quality checks
  8. Final inspection
  9. Digital purchasing process (8 steps)
  10. Schedule delivery
She said that she’s seen this take as little as a week

End of May eh? That is definitely more timeline info than my guide would commit to... I was hoping for more like... end of April:)

^^ I am sure as with ALL R1T vehicles they will build as many as they can within the next Month and start logistics of delivery, estimates are just worse case I am guessing unless they have a different plan for the R1S than they did for the R1T (delivered 50% so far of what they built)

I hear ya’. Maybe she was just making me feel better about my deferment - since end of May to July 1 is only [computing sounds] 31 days.

I was joking the other day that they should have an "I don't care" option for each config, color, wheels, interior, etc.

Table, booth, or, sorry... BM, OC, FE, or first available?

Do you save the shipping/transportation fee if you pickup at the factory?

Yes.
Edit: And by yes I mean no. I suppose I need to learn to read...

Are you sure? That seems like a fixed fee for delivery prep. Otherwise the price would be based on shipping cost. I would say it is still charged.

Can someone who picked up at the factory confirm if the shipping fee was charged?

So what do they do in this scenario, just hold your car for a month or link you to a car that will be coming off the line around July 1st?

Also, what do you need for the Illinois rebate... Sales receipt dated after July 1st?

I’m pretty sure the delivery fee is required, even if you do factory pickup. The only exception I’m aware of is some of the European factory deliveries from overseas car makers.

I believe the destination fee is not allowed to be different for different customers as well. It’s a fixed fee for the model of vehicle.
