Hello everyone,

I Reserved my R1S Canyon Yellow, Quad motor, Large Pack, adventure model, 21 inch wheels in Sep 2021 . Never ever changed the configuration and my scheduled delivery was Oct-Dec 2023 . In Sep 2023, I received an email saying that I need to confirm my Canyon yellow configuration and that I may be the last few to get it before dec 2023 and it will be discontinued and if I don't confirm it that week, my order will be changed to LA Silver. I confirmed my canyon yellow and a week later got Access to the Shop . I never got my configured choice in the shop and so was waiting it out .

The Max pack was announced and In October 2 nd week I called my guide and changed to Rivian Blue, Ocean coast, Max pack, Dual motor performance, 21 inch Wheels and my Pre Hike pricing went from 78,000 to 84,500 $ for changing from Quad to performance dual motor and From large to Max pack. In October 3 rd week I was matched and was told that the vehicle is already in Cleveland service station and that I could pick it immediately if I wanted . I live in Pittsburgh . I was shocked that the vehicle was available at a service center within 1 week of my changing configuration and was worried it was a Reject .

I took delivery on Nov 3 at Cleveland . We went with a 3 page Rivian Checklist from this forum. After 45 minutes of examination, we could not find a single issue to put a ticket on .

We were visibly shocked, I have been reading these forums for 3 years and I went with such a negative mind set that there will be tons of issues and that I have to live with growing pains . The whole 2 hour drive to Cleveland, my wife was complaining that I was dumb to trade in my 2019 BMW X7 which was in pristine condition and runs as smooth as butter. She drives a 2022 Model X with yoke steering and we are not new to EV vehicles .

My vehicle had 44 miles at delivery, VIN was 25491, Manufactured date 10/23 .

Since we didn't find anything on inspection, we were sure we will find something while driving.

We drove back 120 miles exactly from Cleveland to Pittsburgh, outside temp was 60, Cabin temp was 70 , I was on cruise control in all purpose mode with 21 inch wheels at 75 miles per hour for 110 highway miles with unbelievable no traffic and only for 10 miles I was at 60 miles or below . My max pack battery went from 400 miles to 220 miles in Pittsburgh. We didn't stop anywhere, flat road, no hills, no traffic. Without jinxing myself, we reached home and we did not find a single issue to put a ticket on . I think it is basic human nature not to appreciate if someone has done something right but will complain nonstop if there is a mistake .

at home, I plugged the Rivian into my new Tesla Universal wall connector and it worked like a charm on the first try .

I have been following this forum for 3 years and just became a member today to write good things about Rivian and that they made a solid product.

My wife gave her verdict, it is way way better than Tesla Model X but definitely still has some catching up to do with BMW.

When I initially ordered the canyon yellow, I fell in love with it from pictures and videos without seeing it. My wife hated the yellow.
We saw a canyon yellow in Cleveland and I hated it the moment I saw it in real life and my wife fell in love with it . It just shows how subjective and polarizing it is.

After reading these forums, I was sure that I will never change from quad motor and large battery. I think I inadvertently did the best choice by taking Dual motor performance and max pack . My reasoning was, there is no way in hell I was going to drive 60-70 miles/hr on the highways to save battery mileage. I do a lot of highway driving and with max pack I can comfortably drive at 70-80 miles/hour and not have much range anxiety. Also the service rep said with software upgrades in future, they could pull off another additional 15-20 miles on a max pack. For all Pre hike reservations, I think Max pack is a worthy upgrade and more crucially you will be able to keep the vehicle for longer duration and future proof it a little bit when in 5 years every EV will have 500 mile range.

He also said, Running boards are definitely coming next year. Data plan subscription payment is also coming and will no longer be free. Definitely lot more cancellation of orders due to interest rates. Rear 2 nd row display also will have more features down the road it seems, he was not able to elaborate.

We traded in 2019 bmw x7 and Rivian gave us the best offer compared to other online websites. We paid cash for the remaining amount.

Rivian insurance wanted both home and auto through nationwide, so we declined and went with Erie insurance, 1500 $ for 1 year.

The features I miss from my BMW are Apple Wireless Car play, No wind noise, Heads up display and Navigation.

Rivian sound system is way better than Tesla and BMW. Rivian navigation definitely needs some upgrading to do.

Onc again, Rivian built an amazing product and please don't go with a negative mindset like me and my shout out to the Cleveland Service center for doing such a great and efficient job.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have the exact same configuration for my R1T and am very much looking forward to delivery, hopefully this month. Congrats and best of luck with the R1S - it looks great!

Curious which sound system you had in your X7?! I have the Bowers Wilkins in my X7 and boy, it’s hard to beat that. To be fair, I professionally tuned it with the help of an audio engineer.

hey congratulations! If your ever near Mount Airy, MD I would love to do some max pack range testing with our quad large pack. I love the Rivian blue! It was really hard to choose between the limestone and the Rivian blue...limestone won out for my T.

You drove 120 miles and the drive consumed 180 rated miles of range? That’s only 266 miles of total range on a car which is supposed to get 400 EPA. And the drivetrain is supposed to have auto-conserve on the highway. Hmmm.

That stuck out to me, too. And that the Yellow is called Compass Yellow, red is called Canyon Red. I’m a max pack pre-price increase reservation holder and I’m looking forward to real world efficiency and range results. I’m conscious of the risk of faster degradation of these higher capacity battery cells, like in the Tesla 90 kWh vs 85 kWh battery pack … looks like 20,000 KWh or 40,000 miles on a Rivian, would be the break even point (based on Tesla data), which is not comforting. https://electrek.co/2020/06/12/tesla-data-battery-degradation-limited-mileage-packs-equal/

Initially I found this quite concerning as well however 75mph is far from the EPA test standard of less than 50mph average city/hwy.

IF the max pack yields the same results as the Tesla 90kwh pack the resultant additional usable battery after 40K miles is slightly over 10kwh for the MP.
Still having a hard time with the additional 50-60miles out of an extra 15kwh.
I am waiting to see some towing test results & CT specs(don't want to go there) before I lock in on MP.

Can't go wrong with either of those gorgeous colors :) love them both. Canyon Yellow is still my favorite after a year owning my CY quad in matte wrap, but one of those would have been my choice if I hadn't been able to secure one of the few Max Pack Performance CY R1Ts before they shut down the color option.

Picking mine up Saturday morning in Normal, can't wait.

This still seems like an underestimation to me. There's been too much speculation (and questionable extrapolation) and not enough concrete observation on either topic.

We look forward to any real world range and efficiency (miles / kwh) you can share after you pick your max pack up.

Agree. So far we have Miss Go Electric on X who has done some road tripping. She was getting about 2.18 mi per kwh or less.

At that efficiency assuming 129kwh usable for large and 142 usable for Max it would be a difference of 29 miles between large and max. Note that she did get the pre March 2022 pricing... The folks that have gotten max pack seem to be happy with it...in the end that's all that matters.

@km742616 - thanks for the helpful info. Regarding " We went with a 3 page Rivian Checklist from this forum."

Could you please point me to the exact checklist you're referring to? There appear to be multiple after a search, and would love to get an explicit link please. Thanks.
