I am awaiting my Limestone/Forest Edge Adventure package R1S. I am looking for information regarding
spare tire options, as my order had the spare removed from my configuration last year, as did many others.

Can anyone inform me if the spare tire well will accept a full size 22-inch spare, or do I have to settle for the
inflatable spare? If it will accept the 22-inch spare, has anyone gone with an after-market spare wheel and
tire, and what has been your experience with this replacement? Is this a good avenue to consider when seeking
a spare for my R1S?

I am not really keen on the inflatable spare - I would much prefer a full-size spare that can handle normal road
conditions, instead of having to inflate/deflate a reduced speed spare tire.

No.. a full sized spare does not fit. Last three cars we bought either had no spare (run flats) or had a donut spare. To be honest, I have been driving for 30 years and yet to have used a spare. With that said, I'll have the inflatable spare when it is available.

Rivian's spare should (might?) be available to buy this summer.

And I will add this as I am dealing with this as we speak - I blew out my front left driver 22" tire (nails on the fireeway at 80 mph), Rivian doesn't have a spare or a replacement tire for me to even buy!!! They will have to order one - meanwhile my 2 month old R1S sits in front of my house!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Rivian has to figure this out and soon!

I have a full size spare video and some alternate placement photos at the end of this thread: https://www.rivianforums.com/opnwides-frozen-silver-bullet-r1s-is-here-party-in-the-frunk/

Really two aspects to your inquiry about a (fullsize) spare tire
  1. where/how to place it inside or mount it outside
  2. where to obtain a 5th or compatible wheel/tire
I am also expecting my new R1S within a week or so. I'm focusing right now on a hitch mounted pivoting arm to mount a full-size spare. There are actually more than one or two options in offroad aftermarket. Most provide a secondary 2" hitch receiver so you can keep the pivot arm on "all the time" and still do some light/mid duty towing or add a bicycle carrier.

Seems the only way to obtain an OEM spare is finding an owner that is selling a "break-up" of the specific Rivian wheel size/tire to match your setup (a very rare thing). Another initially quite costly option is going with full complement of 5 aftermarket wheels/tires and then selling your OEMs to recoup funds. This is what I'm eyeballing right now.

Would you please share options you’ve found? My research, which included directly reaching out to 5 manufacturers of hitch mounted spare tire holders resulted in all ‘no’s and it’s not on the roadmap. So I ordered from Dirtcom, 9 weeks ago, no eta.

I think the one other hitch mount tire carrier that may work is by Rigd. At least some have mentioned it on here. Not sure if I’ve seen it installed on a Rivian yet.

Any word from Dirtcom on eta for your tire swing out?

No. I reach out weekly. So frustrating, as the owner said on March 31 that they were in production for the R1S.

Does anyone know if the compact spare was available on the configurator before the price hike? I don't remember seeing it as an option when I recently locked in my current configuration. I will be taking delivery soon and would like to get pre-March pricing if possible.
