Yes, TSB is a technical service bulletin. This when a manufacturer has identified a common problem and identified a standardized solution to address it.

technical service bulletins?
Thanks for the clarification. And also appreciated your feedback. Everyone on the forum is very helpful. Definitely weighs in to the decision to become a Rivian owner.

Thanks for the clarification. Were these TSBs all items that were addressed at a Rivian Service Center? Or were they handled by 3rd party?

They are all done with Rivian. They are the ones who release them and the service department is aware of them. I think Rivian calls them RSB's. Here is an example of one with an issue I had.

RSB-18-24-001-1: Hydraulic Suspension Chirping Noise

Hey DayTrippin,

Thanks for taking the time to provide such a comprehensive write-up! It's super helpful! At this point I believe I am leaning towards the Gen 1 Quad Large due to many of the same reasons you've detailed, including such a significant price difference, and having an R2 on order. The Gen 1 seems like a heck of a deal with all the features and tech for the price. Maybe I will upgrade to a newer Gen a few years down the road or just roll with the Gen 1 and an R2.
You best can put a value what matters the most. I was heavily leaning toward buying a Gen 2 truck until I drove them. They didn't have a new quad or tri at the time on the lot to test drive so I ended up driving the Gen 1 quad motor.

After all the reading I did on the "upgrades" for the Gen 2, I was a little bit put off regarding how little of those mattered on my test drives. Based on the articles I read, it should have been an almost earth-shattering improvement. For me it was more like 'Meh' but with a 50-60k upgrade in price over a used Gen 1. As I've mentioned before, if it was an R1S, I'd be leaning a lot more heavily toward the Gen 2.

Of course, everyone's situation is different. What matters to others may not matter to me, and vice versa, so I post the logic behind my decisions. I wasn't trading out of a Gen 1 to move to a Gen 2. So being net new into the ecosystem really forced me to dive deeply into the different models. Since I wanted a high performance truck, that mattered more to me than every extra mile of range I could squeeze out.

Now about 3 months in and 4k miles later, I know I made the right decision for me. High res cameras, better (but still poor) autonomous driving, possibly better efficiency, better compute (that is wasted for likely some time), heat pump, etc. there is nothing that would have moved the needle for me to cough up at least 30k more for a PDM and the 50-60k more for the tri/quad.

If I had gone the cheap route, and bought the PDM, I'd have been disappointed in its performance. Honestly, the G1 quad just barely ticks that box for me. I am fine 0-60 but above that I am typically wanting a bit more. Though I've found recently is quicker in AP (all purpose) mode at about 50 mph than it is in sport. I still don't get the tri motor. It is like the "tweener". Not the the slowest, not the fastest, but close enough to the fastest in price, I'd regret buying it instead of the quad.

Good luck with whatever you buy. Drive some more of them if you can before making a decision. I am probably a bit jaded about performance as most of my other cars/bikes are quicker than my Rivian. Just a few years ago a quad motor Rivian would have been considered a super car at least by 0-60 standards. There is a lot to like yet still a long ways to go.
