Hey guys,

I am new to the forum so be gentle. :whew:

Couple of questions. I am considering getting an R1T performance with the max pack mainly for towing. We have a 2500ish travel trailer (Snoozy II) that we tow with my wifes model Y. We get about 120 miles of range when towing under ideal conditions. I have never pushed it passed 108 miles. The model Y seems to be very efficient with the 80kw batteries. I am just curious if it is really worth it to get the R1T, and what kind of range increase i can expect if any. A 50 mile increase would be a welcomed when towing the camper. I just dont know if it would get that much.

I also want to know the range of daily driving, and how the R1T drive compares to a car. I have never been big on Trucks, but seeing how much some people love the way the R1T handles, I am curious as to how it compares to a car....specifically a Tesla as this will become my daily driver.

Thanks in advance for the responses.

I have T and Y, biggest difference is that the T uses real miles when showing remaining charge, not Elon miles. If it says it'll go 280 miles, at the very least it will do 280 miles (but not if it's below freezing).
Daily driving the T will last further but it will also take longer to charge.
Very difficult to say anything about towing because it really depends on road/weather conditions, trailer weight and aerodynamics but suffice to say if you did 100 miles towing with the Y you will easily go further in the T. Maybe even the magic 150 miles you want.

It will be battery size dependent. Having almost twice the battery size means almost twice the range. This being because you are towing the same trailer with both vehicles and that is the determining wind resistance factor. Without a trailer, the Tesla aero will win over the rivian brick. Expect 2.25 mi/kwh on the highway driving the speed limits.

I get 225 miles of range towing with the max pack going no more than 65mph and usually 60ish. 1.6mi/kwh Ymmv

Thanks for the reply. How much does your trailer weigh? That is awesome range!

We say this a lot but speed is a huge factor in efficiency. How fast do you drive when you tow? The difference between 60mph and 70mph is really big.

It depends on the area, but usually on the interstate between 60-65.
