I had a chance to take a 2022 R1S Quad Motor Launch Edition on an extended test drive (2000+ miles) while my 2023 R1T Quad was in for repairs. These vehicles are similar in many ways, but also not the same. I was able to take the R1S loaner from the bay area to Tahoe several times in poor conditions. Both trucks handle the poor conditions well.

Aside from the obvious differences in seating and SUV profile. Here are some observations:

-Handling in snow - both handle equally well, I have Bridgestone Blizzaks on my R1T which were much better in snow/ice but the R1S with A/Ts handled remarkably well.
-Interior front seating is exactly the same, save for the split button on the left turning stalk for the rear wiper on the R1S. Rear seating is very different due to the SUV vs. Pickup profile.
-Similar suspension noises on both vehicles, but much less than what I was experiencing. I can still hear a bit of this now on my R1T, but it is MUCH quieter and after reading up on these extendable half shafts it sounds like some noise is always going to be there. It's a tradeoff.
-The R1S has MUCH more road noise. The R1T seems to be much better insulated from exterior noise.
-You can really hear the suspension compressor in the R1S. I mean.. it's a BIG difference.
-The R1S has a MUCH shorter turning radius and is overall easier to maneuver in parking lots and small spaces.
-The back seats were very comfortable and adjustable in the R1S. This is a limitation of the R1T not having anywhere for them to go, and there were complaints from family on the lack of comfort on the back seats in my R1T on a long road trip.
-The drive/acceleration was similar. The R1T feels much more planted and solid on the road than the R1S.
-The R1S loaner had the A/T tires and I really liked these. I was surprised at how efficient they were over the performance tires I have on the R1T. I will definitely consider switching to an A/T either swapping out wheels or getting ones that fit onto the performance wheels.

Overall, I like my R1T better. I enjoy the pickup option and overall look of the vehicle. One other thing that I observed is the drab color selection in the current lineup. There is now a red and blue option, but I love my compass yellow and really missed that over the dull green on the R1S loaner.

Anything else I missed?

The comparison of 2025 R1T v R1S will be very different. There have been lots of upgrades since 2022/2023 builds.

My 2025 R1S dual motor is much better in fit, ride, tech, NVH than my 2023 R1T Quad.

What some people don't realize is when you put down the "drink holder" in the back seat of the R1T, you can reach through it and into the gear tunnel. Perfect place to put an ice chest with drinks and snacks on long road trips.

Ah yes! Not a good feature on the R1S: When you recline the seats with the armrest/drink holder down it does not stay level with the seat but leans back which seems counter intuitive.
