R2 Delays effecting certain Vins - HV Communications module(?)

Like many of you I've been (not so patiently) waiting to take delivery of my R2, (21xx Vin), appointment originally scheduled for earlier this week, cancelled and re-scheduled to yesterday and cancelled again. After reaching out a few times I was able to talk to someone knowledgeable and he informed me that a number of r2 vins were flagged for a faulty communications module that needs to be replaced on the HV battery that requires them to drop the pack.

In my case they are hoping this takes less then a week to resolve but It was the first I had heard of this being a potential cause for delay, figured I would share for anyone who may care.

Will be interesting if they have to drop the pack. According to the Monroe video about the battery, all of the electronics were moved to an area in the back and on top of the battery pack that is accessible from the cargo area without dropping the pack.

What?? Just a few days ago Rivian's Senior Vehicle Program Director and Vehicle Hardware Engineering Lead were on a Munro Live video showing off the R2 battery pack's "new design". At the 3min mark in the video they clearly said all the electronics for the new pack are in the "powerhouse" bucket that sits on top of the pack which is accessible from under the rear seat on the R2. They said every component is accessible in the Powerhouse and the pack will not need to be removed for servicing any of the components. Then they went on to say there are nothing but cells, cooling pipes and connector bus bars inside the pack itself, absolutely no electronic components inside the battery pack. Now they're saying they need to drop the pack to replace one of it's electronic components.. ummmmmmm?

There is likely either a lost in translation situation happening and the pack doesn't actually need to be dropped (eg a service tech that has only worked on R1 and is not yet familiar with R2), or perhaps it is easier/faster for them to pull the whole battery pack out and install a new one rather than wait for spare parts.

Apple does this with certain repairs - they give you a new/refurb device on the spot because it's faster, then repair yours and sell it as refurbished to someone else.

I'd bet it's the former though - whoever advised that the battery needs to be dropped may just not be up to speed on the R2 service procedures.

Or... they are having issues separating that large "Powerhouse" cover from the top gasket surface of the cell pack because the RTV or whatever gasket material they used is holding the cover on too tight?

Fwiw, I was originally assigned 25xx VIN but got swapped to a 41xx and the again to a 42xx.

No idea if the HV module issue was at play. They told me it was transportation issues.

My scheduled delivery is 8/3/26.
Fingers crossed there are no more delays.

Now supposedly there is a bad module inside the Powerhouse and Rivian service is stating "we have to drop the battery pack to service it". As others have speculated, it's likely just something they're used to doing with Gen 1's to get at the penthouse. On Gen 2 packs I understand several of the components were relocated to an accessible port on the underside of the packs to facilitate service.

R2, they likely just misspoke.
