Why is anyone paying Rivian ahead of time? I would have not paid until the day of delivery, and I see the vehicle in person. Wire transfer/TCH payments takes minutes
I'm pretty sure that wasn't an option, I didn't ask either.
Still not sure what the concern is, they aren't going to stiff you. If there is an issue with the vehicle during delivery they will fix it one way or another.

Some banks/credit unions don't like wiring things day of. I had to send a cashier's check when I purchased my R1T, and it had to be mailed to Rivian in California, even though I am in Washington State and was picking up in Washington State. Granted, at the time Rivian was not allowed to directly sell in Washington (things have changed for the better since then!).

I am new to the Rivian ecoSystem (R2 order pending). I appreciate everything folks are sharing!

I'll add that I bought a 2023 VW ID.4, and what I have appreciated about what Rivian is doing differently is that there's no local dealer BS in the middle of it all!

With the ID.4, I had a lot of similar stop-and-starts with delivery. It started with a notice that my car 'left the factory' in Tennessee on its way to Oregon, only to be told 2 weeks later it hadn't left at all. (Meanwhile, I'd already sold my other car.) Then the dealer BS ramped way up... they didn't know when my car would arrive, but they had a 'similarly' spec'd one on the lot from a canceled order. At the time, some dealers were charging 'market adjustments' of $5k or more on top of MSRP. Of course, the 'similar' one had the $5k markup. When it did get to the dealer, the pickup day changed several times. One cancellation was that the car didn't pass pre-inspection, with no reason provided. When finally the real pickup appointment arrived, they had 'scotch-guarded' the leatherette upholstery for a $550 upcharge. Then they tried to reject my financing... it felt like they were trying to get me to walk so they could markup and sell to someone else. Luckily, it was a weekday, I was able to get on the phone w/ VW of America and get it sorted out, but needless to say, I never went back to that dealer again (and still drive across town for maintenance).

That whole story sounds like Eugene Levy getting Chevy Chase into the Family Truckster instead of the Alpine Blue Sportswagon!

Yeah, I totally regret not leveraging wiring the funds. I used a Credit Union for the loan because of much improved interest rates (I'm purchasing not leasing) and they generated a check. Therefore, it had to be physically sent ahead of the planned delivery day. In this case, it arrived on Monday for a Tuesday delivery... until it didn't.

Working through that issue now with Rivian.
